Hi, I'm not very windows-savvy (this is my first windows laptop in a long time) and I'm getting a beeping sound every time I use the FN keys on the sony ultrabook. I've seen past threads about other vaios doing this but I haven't been able to figure out how to resolve it. Can anyone give me a step by step on windows 7 as to how to tackle it? Thanks.

I muted system sounds to eliminate the beep, does that do anything else I might not want?

It will get rid of the other beep and exclamation sounds.

So for a while that seemed to work, but unfortunately the beeping came back even with the mixer volume all the way down on system sounds + muted...

EDIT: It seems that when I unplug the power, the beeping comes back, if that helps isolate the problem.

inside C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\VAIO Event Service try rename pi.wav to something else.

Several people suggested that. How do I do that in windows 7? I haven't really worked with a windows computer in 7 or 8 years.

Press Windows Key and then "R" and then copy and paste in the following: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\VAIO Event Service"

If that opens a folder, scroll down to P and then find pi.wav and rename it (press F2 to select and then type in a new name).

I just deleted that file outright and it eliminated the beeping sound.

Thanks JAmerican. Just to let you know your videos and posting convinced me to give a shot to the laptop (bought it at sony store, have 14 days to give it back). It lacks a little bit of the gaming power I want for light gaming, and the fan is a bit much I agree, so I might return it. I mean I actually am going to anyway because Amazon had a better deal than the sony store...

Glad I could help. Sometimes I wish companies like Sony would see these forums and reviews of their products and actually reply or give consideration to our comments. The products they'd release would be perfect almost every time. I hope they really do release a BIOS update for that laptop because it's quite capable for day-to-day tasks.

I get a cannot find error. Going through the dropdown I don't see VAIO Event Service. I see Vaio Easy Connect
