Any advice on docking station solutions for my new VAIO Z13? I searched through old threads and everyone seems concerned with dual monitor support. The only requirement I have is that I want to do 2560x1600 out of the Z to a Dell U3011 30" monitor, which supports that resolution.

I had the old Sony VGP-PRZ1 but wasn't a huge fan of it so I'm primarily looking for ideas on alternative solutions that people think beat the VGP-PRZ110 dock, which appears to have pretty horrid reviews as well.

Thoughts? Do any third-party docks also provide charging functionality?

Well I think I may have answered my own question. I bought the new Z13 knowing full well the GT 330M could support 2560x1600 out but had no idea that Sony jacked the laptop itself so that resolution couldn't be output.

    Any other thoughts?

I'll try and answer your last question. I have not seen any third party docks that utilize Sony's docking port on the bottom of the computer, thus, no other docks support charging. You would think there would be a bigger market for Sony docks since all of their computers use the same port replicator, but maybe Sony doesn't allow this or something or another. So it looks like if you want a dock with a charging function, you have to get the VGP-PRZ10.

So with that said, it doesn't really help your matter since you want to use your Dell screen at that resolution that the Sony dock doesn't support. You might have some luck with an express card graphics card dealio that was discussed in the dual monitor Z thread. (Sorry can't find it right now). I know you don't want dual monitors, but an external graphics card, in theory, should be able to drive the higher res Dell screen.

BTW 512 GB SSD?! I'm jealous!

Thanks for the information. I may have to look into an express card down the road then, even though I don't NEED 2560x1600, it would help me as I'm a developer and the more screen resolution the better!

The 512 SSD took a giant bite out of my wallet but I didn't want to have to fight space issues anymore like I did with my 128 SSD. :)
