This looks like a good deal esp. with 5% bing cashback

Ugh, link doesnt work but, if you go to sony laptop section, they have a new one at the end

or use this SKU number 9740911 in the search section

at first glance it seems to be the same model i paid $1899 at sony for last night! Returning isn't an option as its a 15% restock fee if opened which mine ofcourse is. That would be aweful if sony is supplying bestbuy with the same model at $200 cheaper. The model number is the same except bestbuy's as a /S at the end. Time to go take a deeper look and hope best buys is missing something

appears to be identifcal, unless i am missing something :( what a slap in the face for getting it last night hehe

Are you certain you will have to pay the restocking fee? When I purchased mine from the sony store, the sales rep told me that they would only charge it if the laptop showed signs of use or damage, or if there were missing items like manuals, cds, etc..

Yes if opened it says so on the sony receipt. I remember in November when i purchased a Z880 i was told the same thing. It wont hurt to ask i did spend a bit of money at the same sony style store in the last few months, maybe they will work with me.

sonystyle webstore charges $50 for win 7 pro

i think this is a good deal if you are ok with base config, although i want at least a premium carbon fiber option

I'm sure they are the exact same model. The "/S" simply means "Silver" in Sony's book. I'm sure you'll see your full model name/number on your packaging box stating "...../S" since your new VAIO Z notebook is silver in color & it is a "pre-config" model.

cool...anyone know if they'll carry the carbon model?

nm, it'd be there on the website if it were.

I will just have to buy a customized model off the Sony site then.

I didn't see an S anywhere on my box labels or the machine. But i'm sure you are right since the /S is listed on the $1899 model on sonystyle US store. So it appears that sony has a lot of markup in the machine to let a third party retailer sell it for $200 less and still earn.

Even at the same price iid rather buy from bestbuy for reward zone coupons :) and I am premiere so no restocking fee's on electronics! However, this machine isn't going anywhere near a return line..

    @ DrewVL

The Ram config. is 2 x 2GB, I would be very happy if it was 1 4GB dimm id goto 8gb much faster if that were the case.

Why not go over to the Sony Style store you bought your VAIO Z from & ask if they'll be willing to do a price match or something? I mean you have nothing to lose, do you?

You can at least let them know that you're unhappy that BestBuy is charging for $200 less for your exact same model. Maybe you can even insist on returning your notebook without being charge a restocking fee. If they don't allow that, it isn't any big deal since you'll be keeping your purchase either way. However, if they do, then you definitely have everything to gain.

I'll kindly urge you to give my suggestion a try. :) Good luck. :)

On 2nd thoughts, if you succeed in doing this & happen to live close to me, you can even buy me a cup of coffee for the $200 that you saved. :D Just kidding. :)

I purchased my Z for $1899 last friday from a retail sony style store and they applied additional discounts when they bundled the warranty. Anyway, I called today and mentioned that bestbuy has it listed for $1699. They adjusted the price and still applied the original discounts as well. Hopefully, all went well, because they said they would fax over the receipt or i could pick it up, but I haven't received it yet.

    $1699
    - $246.36 discount
    $1452 for the VPC112GX/S

plus extra for tax and warranty

i got 10% off for bestbuy being cheaper. They wouldt combine any EDU discounts or anything of the sort. Im glad you got yours for this price i will be writing to sony corperate.

means i paid $1709.10. I do qualify for Educational pricing too but they wouldn't combine. If you were in fact in a sony retail store and they did this for you they should do the same. I will let you know how i make out i emailed corporate and also sending snail mail.

Also which promotion was that? buy 2 accessories and a warranty and get $250 off but you said $246.36. Just wondering which promotion. They said that promotion didn't exist anymore anyway.

Go to the post office and find the moving package and get the 10% off coupon for BB.

I got the SR and I am thinking of getting the Vaio Y. I am downsizing as I want longer battery life vs power.

The only thing is the hd is SS and its kinda small.

Yep. Don't think that coupon works. :( However, when ordering online from BestBuy, don't forget to use Bing cashback. :D

On a side note. If only I can sell my (old) VAIO Z690 for a "decent" amount of money, I may be able to "squeeze out" an extra couple of hundreds or something to buy this base config new VAIO Z from BestBuy. :( I guess it's also time for me to start my Spring cleaning, in hopes of finding some spare change being stashed somewhere around the house (yeah, wishful thinking, I know). :D

I just get everything reinstall on my SR. It is still a great computer. Sometimes I am asking for too much.

I use to have a Z that was only around $1240 doing the J&R and bing thing. I have no idea why the Z has gone up so much.

Then I sell it and bought the SR and after all that and the free battery, travel charger and bag thing that I sold on ebay, I got it for around $150.

The price is actually even lower from compusa.com after bing cash back if you have to pay tax in your state. Price is 1900 w 12.5% cashback ($200 cap) = ~1700 with no tax in most states.

@stauffer4918, yes same thing for me.

@Chong67 - I Remember i believe december 08' i got a Z from a sony retail shop with a coupon and an EDU discount, then i sent for the portable one (all resellers i guess) rebate for the fre docking station, extended battery, and mobile mouse. I got it too. That was my biggest score with sony never anything like it since.

Are the brick and mortars going to carry a more powerful version or even one with a graphite case? I remember years ago when CompUSA would sell a few models in their BM's. I'd buy this one today, except for the Silver and TINY hard drive.

i think as of right now only Sony Style stores carry them in store. Bestbuy is online only according to their website and compusa doesn't have retail stores, atleast here.

Actually plus tax in most states. Almost all states that have sales tax also have "use tax", where you have to declare out-of-state purchases and pay a use tax instead, normally identical to your local sales tax. If you don't declare and pay the tax, and you get audited, the sum of fees, fines, penalties and compound interest can be quite severe.

I pickup up the BestBuy unit sunday from SonyStyle retail store they price matched BestBuy ($1699.99) online store price.
I wanted to purchase it at a retail store just in case the unit had any issues.
Very happy so far with my purchase machine is really well built powerful, and beautiful.

    Go here: http://www.bing.com/shopping/pages/stores.aspx?scope=cashback&FORM=R5FD1

Look for BestBuy and link through the store through Bing Cashback. You have to link through Bing in order to get the cash back. You also have to set up a Bing Cashback account before linking through to the store.

I ordered my Z last night from Best Buy. Today I got confirmation it shipped and it should be here on Friday. I did it through bing.com/rewards too, and today got an e-mail that $85 was credited to my bing account.

I got free shipping (Silver member) and used my reward zone cert ($75), so it was $1730 with Tax. With bings $85 and eventually get another $35 in reward zone certs from this purchase it brings it down to $1610. Not bad, plus I used x-mas gift cards to pay for $128 of it.

I just couldn't pass that deal up vs. customizing one on the SonyStyle site. I wasn't crazy about Silver, but I would rather have a functioning machine at a decent cost than care about color. Plus I am never looking at the cover and I liked the silver model's keyboard.
