    Hi everyone,

After searching around I think I'm fairly set on getting a SZ780. With a stock configuration it comes out to around $1725CAD inc tax/shipping. That's using the sonystyle.ca site.

Does anyone have any luck getting cheaper prices at the sony store if you try to bargain with them? Does the sonystyle.ca site have coupons often? 10% or $100 or something? I wouldn't mind ordering one in the next week or so, but if I could get it for around $1600 that would be great. Any ideas?

    Cheers.

Some electronics store sells them for a cheaper price...im not sure whether they have the same warranty tho. If you live around toronto then go to a few local stores...a lot of them have sony laptops at decent config. Im not sure if they have the sz780 but it would be a good idea to check it out first.

I think there is no LED in Canada.
Once I asked the salesperson about if there is SZ-type with LED display in a Sony Store, he said it'd cost big big money lol.

I thought all the current SZ models only have one option for the screen type. I noticed a couple other threads talking about the LED display, but I just assumed since I can't find any option on the US or Canadian site, the SZ models all ship with a standard LED screen.

There are options for LED and LCD in US and there is obvious difference in price between LED and LCD models on US website. the expensive ones on US web clearly indicated LED display while the cheaper ones only indicated LCD in specs.
But in Canada you can only see the LCD option on it but still expensive including all the tax.

Actually, in Canada, only the LED LCD is available and not the CCFL or whatever LCD. I know this because I recently got a sz780 with an LED LCD.

Seriously? Is there a proof or some document saying it's LED? Or the salespeople even in Canadian SONY store don't know it's LED?

there's definitely proof, check sonystyle.ca and its specifications on the sz780.

I did, and it only said LCD on the description. I mean, if it is LED, it must be an attraction compared to the other computers, but it didn't. So how come? Or it's really just LCD?

I'm assuming the SZ7 models only ship with an LED screen. Unless you can point me to a site that gives you more then one display choice, it must be LED. Both the US and Canadian site give the same description, however, on the US site found in another page, you see the text "13.3" Razor-thin LED backlit widescreen display with XBRITE™ LCD technology".

    DISPLAY
Screen or Display Technology: WXGA razor thin LCD panel
    Screen Size: 13.3”
    Resolution: 1280x800
    XBRITE™ LCD Technology: Yes
White LED back light for better quality and clarity

    It's there alright.
