    Hi guys,

    Thinking about selling my Z.

Where in your opinion(s) would be the bet place to sell it? I sort of hate eBay now due to their ridiculous fees (especially with PayPal). Have any of you guys had success elsewhere?

(Mods - this is a genuine question - not sure if you're allowed to advertise here but that isn't my intention).

    Tim

    Craigslist or the NBR MarketPlace.

    Good luck. :)

Oops, my bad with Craigslist. You might want to look into equivalent sites to sell your VAIO Z notebook. On the other hand, you can still list your notebook in the NBR MarketPlace for sale. :)

    Good luck. :)

If you break it up for parts, I think you will get a better return.

The thing about Craigslist (from my experience here in the States) is that for more niche products such as high end Sony computers is that the localized market of Craigslist never commands as much money as eBay where there's a wider audience. But as the OP mentioned there's eBay fees etc., so it may end up being a wash either way. (The same concept may apply to any British sort of Craigslist)

Well, apart from NBR marketplace may be try Gumtree or Loot if it still exists. I've sold a few computers via Loot and I've sold several things through Gumtree.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll put it on here first I think.

Rachel - Gumtree is infuriating! Sooo many attempts to scam you!

Just some more reassurance for using NBR. I've sold over 10 laptops on NBR - only by mentioning in a post that I might be selling one! Please, for all concerned, don't underprice it for fear you won't sell it; these are still in very high demand. Look at eBay for prices of units sold in the past month and ask about 10% more, to have room to lower price if it just isn't moving. Also, if you have an ad in the NBR Marketplace, you are allowed to mention it's for sale in your sig. line, and to have a hot link to your ad.

On average in US, (convert to Sterling):

    stock retail model w/128GB SSD: $1,000-1,400 (used-new)

    CTO with 256GBSSD: $1,500-$1,800 (used - new)

Any config, with 1080p screen: add about $200

add factor for 8GB RAM: very little, as it only costs $70 new.

carbon fiber addition: may add $100+

You can get a little more/sell it faster if it is in mint condition and pictures prove it. A bit of a bump for original box and packing, not too much, but again more desirable.

I would expect them to command more in the UK because they sold for more when new, and the Z21 sells for more than it does here. Don't know if there is VAT to pay on used goods.

Just some rules of thumb. Hope they help you price it and sell it. There is also a thread in the NBR Marketplace in which you can do what is called a "price check" or "indication of interest" and I believe you do not need to go through all the rules of posting an actual FS ad, but check the rules to be sure. Also, if there are 2 or more for sale now, and you are not in a rush - especially if yours is not exceptional compared to what's for sale, consider holding off until most or all are for sale.

All of this offered in good faith based on a lot of experience, but of course, every case is different. Again, unless you are in a hurry for the cash, do not feel scared into selling it too cheap! Hurts you and all that follow you. Notice a few that went for a "steal" on eBay; you don't want to be them.

Good luck. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
