I'm planning on buying an S150, and currently, Amazon has it for $1999.99 - $150 rebate = $1750 or so. No tax saves another $160 for me (California tax sucks!) Is this a good deal?

    VGN-S150 here at Amazon

Curiously, the picture shows the dock...Is that included?

absolutely that's a good deal, and you have a 30-day return policy with Amazon I believe (not totally sure) and they are most definitely a very reputable seller.

I don't think that the dock comes with the VGN-150 as it is listed as an accessory on the Sony site.

If you have Micro Center in your area, they currently have a promotion on the S150. It's $1999 - $100 mail-in-rebate, and there is an extra -$100 mail-in-rebate if you apply for a Micro Center credit card and make your purchase with it.

So in the end, it's $1799 + tax after two mail-in-rebates. Or $1899 if you don't want to apply for their credit card.

This promotion is in a print ad for retail stores that I received in the mail and it's good through July 25th. I can't find it listed on their website.

Looking at the Amazon page again, it seems the offer is actually through Circuit City. So you can also order direct from Circuit City. It's a web only price, but I think you can order on the web and specify in-store pickup.

    Sony VAIO VGNS150 $1,849.99

You *can* order through Amazon, as I am about to do...CircuitCity charges tax. and at 8.5%, that's a lot of money!

I think you mean the V505 series. There is no manufacturer's rebate for the s150.

I found cheapest one in ebay. I ordered s150 yesterday with $1700 and today there is better offer, $1650.

Here is a usefull information. I have a americanexpress blue credit card and they said they will extend my warranty upto 1year. Anyone who has this card had better check extendible warranty by phone before buying laptop.

I wouldn't buy a laptop off eBay. So many things can go wrong. Also, warranty doesn't apply to personal eBay transactions, so unless you get a receipt from a dealer, good luck with the warranty.

Thank you for your advice, magic168. I checked with the seller and there is one year warranty. I will check the warranty in advance when I buy a valuable stuff from ebay along your words.

You're braver than me, zenman! :) Hope you like your new laptop...I'm still trying to decide if I really _need_ one. ;-)

If I were you, I would check out Compusa. They recently had a $150 mail in rebate on the S series, putting the price down to $1849...but here's the kicker....Compusa has a killer trade-in program I hear, check it out on their website. You can trade in old desktops and laptops and get hundreds of dollars for them, and that would drastically reduce the cost of your new laptop.
