I have one of the latest CW's.

If I wanted to connect a new Samsung 24" LCD, what would be the best way to connect?

Use the regular VGA port? (this is not DVI though right? have to adapter?)

Or Use some kind of HDMI to DVI adaptor?

I basically want to setup my desk as a traditional desktop running off the laptop, as I read lots of documents and write/research a considerable amount.

I have the latest CW and plugged into my 24" by HDMI. I used VGA before but it was not sharp at all (not sure why). If you have the monitor, why don't you try plugging in VGA and see the quality? if your monitor has HDMI port then it's the best choice. I love the sharpness using HDMI :)

I have not purchased one yet. My home monitor does not have HDMI. I was asking mainly to see if I need to make that a point in my purchase. It sounds like I do need to get one with an hdmi input based on your experience. Thanks.

My impression is that DVI/HDMI is digital, whereas VGA is analog, so I think DVI/HDMI is sharper, especially for high resolution screens. That said, I believe some machines (like the Z) has a higher output resolution from the VGA port (still sounds strange to me), so your home monitor resolution may matter. I would definitely try the HDMI->DVI way first...

Edit: Monoprice is a great place to buy cables and adapters:

If my CW i3 nvidia 310m laptop outputs 1366x768 to its own screen, is that the max it would output to a 24" Samsung monitor via hdmi with a native resolution 1920x1080?

I believe the CW supports HDMI output to 1920 x 1080
