Am not living in the US but have a friend thats going there, was planning
on asking my friend to buy a SC at bestbuy. I have a question for the owners.

    1. Is the warranty, sony warranty or bestbuy warranty? cant it be serviced
    at another country?
    2. Can my friend just go to bestbuy and pick one up? the site says no but as
i remember everybody here is saying they picked one up at bestbuy. so
which is which. Thanks in advance. +1 to the warranty answer this is kinda
    urgent. TIA

My experience with Best Buy is a few years old, but I bought a $500 electronic device as a present for my wife, and when she unpacked it, it was DOA. We went to Best Buy to get it replaced, and was told that it since we had left the store with it, we would have to contact the manufacturer. This was their store policy.

Things might have improved, or they might not - I wouldn't know, because since then, I have boycotted Best Buy and taken my money elsewhere. I take crud like this exactly once.

to the warranty question: 98% No. Warranties are usually not international and only pertain to only the US or just North America. Even laptops from SonyStyle USA, have to be serviced in America. However, companies like Asus do have warranties that are international (their warranties are usually 2 year with 1 year accidental damage handling... best standard warranty in the industry imho).

to the store pickup option, if your store carries it, then by all means go pick it up. I would assume best buy doesn't institute store pick-up, so either use item locator if they have it online or call into your local store if you don't want to waste time to drive in to see if they have it.

If you buy an Asus from Best Buy though it is only a one year warranty and you have to go through Best Buy to deal with repairs. I don't know if Sony has the same set up with Best Buy though.
