Placed my order on 8/2. Was just told by Sony Style that they won't even have all the parts til 8/16, then add 5-7 days to build, and 2 days to ship. Just wanted to make you all aware of this delay. I was told, when I ordered it, that they would start making it around 8/6.

Hmmm tats weird. I ordered mine on 8/1 and there was a notice on the site that said out of stock. I checked it out and it said production will not start till on or about Aug. 2. Well tat was one day away so i didn consider it a delay. But then lo and behold my credit card got rejected because the purchace was a security issue and i had to call them b4 so it was cancled on the 3rd. I called in my credit card company, verified the purchace and ordered again on the 4th. This order was made on the phone this time but it was a complltly new order. Hense the free 512 mb ram upgrade expired on the 1st so the second time i ordered it i didnt get the free upgrade. (- $50, no biggy ) So i ordered again on the fourth of aug and it was schedueled for production on the 5th. AND NOW, its completed and shipped on the 9th. maybe i just got lucky but its on its way and i orderd 2 days after you. I think you should call them.

    Just my 2 cents.

How WEIRD is this? The same day I was told about the above delay by Sonystyle, I got an email with a fedex tracking number! I'll get my S170 by late Thursday!

    Arg.. in reply to this:
I ordered my S170 on 8/17 and I was told it's being built on 8/23 with 5-7 day wait to ship, and i have overnight shipping. Think I'll get it when they're saying I will? :(

No reason to worry yet. I just wanted to share my experience which proves that Customer Service at sonystyle.com can tell you one thing and production does another! I had my computer by 8/12, using 2 day shipping.

I'mlearned that customizing a machine can add to delays. I ordered a Fujitsu (from Fujitsu) and had to wait about 2 weeks from the time I placed my order until I recieved it. What caused the delays was that I picked a custom configuration so instead of directing a U.S. warehouse to ship one out, they had to build it in the factory. Of course you can always pay a little extra to rush it, but with custom configs, this is usually not an option.
