I had the black screen of death occur with my HP Pavilion. Call Sony. If the BIOS update bricked your Sony, certainly a new one is due for you. Don't forget to give us the conclusion to this matter. Good luck

Hmm the BIOS appears before anything because it has nothing to do with the Hard Drive... but if that's a problem found by Sony, then hopefully they'll replace it or fix it for you

    Yes and No!

I had similar problem on my S - if the HDD is not recognized the BIOS stops responding - you can't enter it neither does it boot!!

Hard to believe/expect but the truth. If the HDD was to be removed - one could enter the BIOS.

But if the computer loads, than it is certainly not a HDD problem.

i was trying to check the bios version on my new Z13 laptop. It is 7/30/2010. So I went to Sony website to check for any newer versions. I found no mention of BIOS anywhere in software/drivers section??

Updating your BIOS to a newer version is generally only advisable to fix a specific problem you are experiencing, or to add functionality from an update.

IME it's not worth the hassle & pain it can cause you (see above) just for wanting to have the latest version of everything.

If you're not having problems, leave the BIOS alone.
