I am a new F1390X owner and I would like to purchase a 3rd party cheap backup battery. I have found bios patches from V1.0.0.11 through 1.0.0.14 and none of them are compatible with the F1390X.

Does anyone know if a bios patch exists for the F1390X and if so where to grab it?

Ha, they get perfectly good reviews and are 50% of the cost. If I would have looked up and seen that there was no bios unlock for this model I probably would have purchased something else. Assuming I find the unlock then I would say this laptop is just about perfect.

Better than that I can pick up the extended battery and 2 regular batteries for less than the cost of one Sony extended battery. Sony make's some good equipment but I'm not a fan of their overpricing everything.

Hopefully someone knows the answer :)

You don't any BIOS patch for installing a 3rd party battery, just uninstall the Sony battery check utility.

My thing is if you spend so much on a computer, I wouldn't risk saving $100 on a second battery by patching the bios which could potentially brick your computer.

But as coolguy said, if you uninstall the battery check utility, it's possible this would be an adequate work around.

Ok, against my better judgment, I am giving you this link that, in addition to instructions that can help you, also contains links to possible patches you can use even though your specific model is not listed as supported. I personally think it is not a good idea and I do not recommend or vouch for any software you may install as a result. VAIO-F Series Battery Replacement - Third Party Alternative

Yea, I've been all over that guys page and he does a really good write up. The problem is his links are no good. They just link to some place that sells the battery and not to the V1.0.0.10 that he says worked with his model. I emailed him a few days ago but have not received a response.

I've hunted across a ton of sites and even emailed some of the sellers and gotten V1.0.0.11 through 14 but none of them worked with my model. None of the sellers would tell me where they get the bios patches, so I could contact the software's creator.

It "is" possible, like coolguy says, that I don't even need a patch. It seems unlikely that Sony would lock 500 models down and leave mine open :) Hopefully someone will come across this thread that is using a 3rd party battery in a F1390X.

Well, that link (the one that goes to the battery website) is the same place that Vito, from the other thread, got the patch that worked on his F13. I would email the battery seller from there and see if they can send you a link if you can't find it on the site. Maybe they took the links down or moved them but it's the same website that everyone is getting it from.
