I went with "classic" black. In fact, I ordered one. Gray is not bad but if black is available, that is what I would choose in a heart-beat.

went with gray because i've been using thinkpads for quite a while and i wanted a fresh move from that. The black looks sleek though it seems like Sony Europe is offering two types - one in black and other in premium black. The best is to see it in person to see how it matches up with you. It'll make a big difference when you see the unit in different real time perspectives, lighting etc. Laptops are after all an extension of your personality to some degree. There not in stores here in NY yet but if they do come within the 30 day period and I like black better i will do an exchange. (gonna be a pain though since i'm returning my FW590 for an F already)

    I'd go for the black.

I have never seen a black VAIO that I didn't like.

Is 'premium black' a European thing? What exactly is it?

well it's definitely not offered in the States. The premium black seems to having a black tonal change on the --lid possibly texture? also there seems to be contrasting tones between the palmrest and the rest of the casing. check it out (UK Vaio) I can't make good guesses based on the final color of these units from small photographs. Lighting setup of the units when photo was taken..etc. For all I know both are really dark grey sony Calls black

here are the 2 different blacks... Left is the normal black.. and right is the premium black.....i personally prefer the premium black.. which is also available in Australia where i live... but the crap thing about it is that there is no backlit keyboard...

    Gray. It shows less fingerprints.

I had the gray F and it will show just the same amount of fingerprints as on the black lid.
    In the North America versions:
Black= black lid (satin finish), gunmetal gray interior panels
Gray= dark gray lid (satin finish) silver interior panels

The silver interior panels were very similar the FW and I liked it. The dark grey exterior lid though is quite bleh!
The black would look much more professional to bring to meetings.

Edit: while I voted for the Gray and received
the Gray F initially, I finally ended up with with the NA Black version and am satisfied with it.

Interesting...I just customized a F series and I could only get the 1080p screen if I chose a gray.

Yup. More reasons to go for the GRAY one.

    Sony's website says:
16.4" VAIO Premium Display is not available with the Black color option.
