I am looking to create complete (backup) copies of my DVD collection with my SZ, but i am unsure as to which blank DVD's are compatible with my DVD burner.
All the blank DVDs i have at home are a mere 4.7GB but the DVD images are just over 6GB.
Do i need to use a Dual Layer blank dvd or are there standard single layer blank DVDs with enough capacity?
If i need a dual layer which type would i require?
As here they have 'Dual+X', 'Dual+V', 'Dual+P', 'Dual+T5' which has left me puzzled.

Your SZ probably burns dual layer media. Check to see if it does in the specs.
For 4.7gb, you only need single layer. Anything above that requires dual layer media, which are much more expensive.
There are programs which compress 9GB of dual layer media into single layer burnable .iso files -
If you want to backup DVDs that are over 4.7 GB, you would need to either:
1. use dual layer media (DVD+/-R DL), though this media may not be usable on standalone dvd players, or;
2. use dvd decrypter and clone dvd2, similar programs, to compress the dvd ont a 4.7GB disc. This disc will probably be able to be read in your standalone dvd player, if it's relatively new (as in around 2-3 years or less). Instead of losing picture quality, you can get rid of the unneeded audio and subtitle tracks, as well as bonus stuff you may not want. -
Thanks for your reply gautam3.
My SZ said does burn dual layer media, i was aware of this. Unfortunately i am unsure of which dual layer discs to purchase hence the above question.
Are the compressed .iso files able to be read by a bog standard DVD player? or only by a PC? -
