    Hi,

It seems that I can't overclock and also have blu ray playback capability with the same driver. I THINK the FZ's are BIOS locked meaning they can only overclock upto a certain driver. This issue hasn't been issued directly at the FZ's 8600GS but more to other laptops containing the same GPU.......I assume the same applies to the FZ though.

Basically, what are the latest drivers you are using which allow you to both play blu ray and overclock?

On laptopvideo2go, the latest driver I can see specifically for Sony's (i.e. with Sony INF in driver) is 167.60. Are there any newer ones than this?

    Jam.

I would strongly recommend that you do not overclock. There are several reasons to avoid it:

    1) laptop cooling solutions are not robust enough to deal with more heat than they already dissipate
    2) overclocking can lead to in-game stability problems
    3) your 8600 may be part of Nvidia's thermal problem; overclocking will not help
    4) performance benefits are small in comparison to the disadvantages

I've overclocked before I see safe to do so. I'm not one of those fanatics that get carried away with overclocking and make my GPU stay in hot temperatures for long duration. However, this was with 169.04 drivers which don't allow blu ray playback.

About the thermal problems, I think my gpu is fine from that. I recently cleaned out my laptop and applied new thermal paste and my max temperature is 65C (stock clocked).
