I would like to know too.

Also, does the PS3 read blu ray data? I would think it does?

Hmm. Completely not worth it at those prices - given the cost of 1TB external drives.

    Or even the cost of DVD-R ~ 100 4.7gb DVDs for $20 (470Gb) vs 4 25Gb BluRays (100Gb).

    1TB hdd - $99

    Take your pick :) lol

Nah. DVD is way too small.

I would consider backing up on blu rays though.

wow 20 bucks for 2 Blu rays is a good deal?

I might as well buy the Dark Knight Blu Ray and write over it!

Of course they will. Remember how much a DVD-R used to cost a while back?

    I'm buying a D-Link NAS and 2 WD with 1TB each.

Just use 8.5GB dual layer DVDs. I record HD content for blu-ray players on them right now. You can buy 50 for about $30. By next year we should get that price on BD-R disks. It might be a bit longer for the BD-RE disks.

These are discs with an extra layer on them for extra capacity. However, older players and readers may have trouble reading them and they of course cost more. A single layer DVD holds 4.7gb whereas a double layer holds about 8.5gb. A single layer Blu-Ray disc holds 25gb whereas a dual layer holds 50gb.

I have a couple of DVD-RAM discs and they are quite useful, being able to write to them like a hard drive.
Anyone know if there will be Blu-Ray-RAM discs? I know that there were HD-DVD-RAM discs in development but the format has been canned altogether.

I dont know if you can buy mediums yet, but I have a drive that supports rewriting bluray discs - so the format exists definately ;)
    it's called BR-RE imo
