I am curious; those of you who have seen Sony Laptop with built in Blue Ray DVD Drive; does the visual quality make a big difference at all when you watch it with the laptop monitor?

I thought you would need a big screen HDTV to see the difference. I have seen Ice Age 2 with Blue Ray and you can see every single strain of hair of the mammoth but this was with a giant big screen TV.

For the record I have not seen a blu-ray played on a laptop. But have seen blu-ray on hdtv, 52" at 1080i/720p.

I would have to say blu-ray on a laptop is more of a luxury. At 15", the detail will be visible if you look carefully (squint), it will not be as evident as on a bigger display. The FZ series which can include blu-ray has a lcd resolution of 1280x800. At that res its enough to see the detail but because the display is only 15", it will be rather small. The main benefit is the image will look crisp, sharp and very detailed.

I think its nice to have a blu-ray on a laptop but honestly I wouldn't pay the extra money for it. If I were to buy a new laptop today and I had the option to get blu-ray, I'd say no. Blu-ray on laptop has very limited use... although it is a nice option.

certainly watch blu-ray movies on a HDMI supported tv, at least a 40", personally i think laptop screens are too small for movies, i try to sell my sony lcd46" , and going to get the 69.5" one, movie on that will be awesome. I think a blu-ray player will do a better job than the blu-ray optical drive buildin laptop.
