    Hey guys.
I got a FW590GJB. it was originally win 7 64bit installed. after a week i saw that wile i am in windows, the screen turns to black and comes to normal again with balloon error: "The ATI drives was stopped responding and successfully recovered". I didn't care. but after a month, i saw "blue screens" while using windows, and recently it happens on start up. before each blue screen there are noisy lines on screen. the colors mix and system hangs. and eventually "blue screen" comes and restarts the system. I downloaded several versions of my ATI 4650 Driver (8.36 - 8.56 - 8.65), no changes...
I used recovery dvds. it even doesn't let me finish the recovery process and crash lines happen and restarts the system... I tried win 7 32bit. same thing happened. This time I could install the windows but when desktop comes, it last for only about 2 minutes, and then the screen mixes the colors and blue screen again...
I installed Vista 32 bit. it works with no problems. I also installed XP 32bit, it worked with no problems. but i want to have win 7 64 bit on my system...
what is the problem with win 7 and my system???

    Have you tried updated drivers?
    Have you tried downgraded drivers?

I can not try any drivers.
I can't even install win 7. it happens at the end of the installation. the safe mode is also unreachable and says that "unable to complete the installation in safe mode".

no it's not about the temps. not at all, quite cool...

I'd guess faulty recovery DVDs... have you got the Recovery partition still working?

(Because XP worked if I understand you correctly)

I tried 3 different copies of win 7 32 bit and all the same error again. recovery disks are fine.

    But XP worked?

Then install XP - try to test if the hardware is OK - maybe benchmark?
And if yes, you might have found an error in Windows 7...

Do a search and install "bluescreen viewer".
That will tell you which files are causing the bluescreen and hopefully lead to a solution. Otherwise you all we can do is guess and offer generic fixes.

the exact file that causes error is "atikmdag.sys".
I installed vista, then installed 7 in another hard drive. as you know, installation of 7 interrupted by atikmdag.sys. the file was in "d:\windows\system32\drivers" and I moved it(through my vista). the blue screen didn't happen again, but setup doesn't let me keep on the installation and says some files are missed, when I place the atikmdag.sys again, the bluescreen comes again!
You know, it's a default ATI driver on 7. it's version is 8.1. I tried replacing it with atikmdag.sys from other versions of driver, but setup just says some files are missed and restart the installation.

You could try Nlite and slipstream a newer/different ATI driver into the disk.

Good idea, I'm gonna try that. does nLite work with win7? I have only tried it with win XP. so tell me how could I remove the pre installed driver? (I only know how to slipstream a new one)

I did some tests and the results are:

win 7: the original version that was pre installed on the notebook was good, but little by little errors appeared saying: "the ATI driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered". then after a month the blue screen didn't let the windows to start and it came on the welcome screen. I tested another copy of windows and blue screen doesn't let the installation even finish!

win vista: it can be installed and used. but when I install a graphic driver, it happens again. start up failure by blue screen.

win XP: just like win vista happens.
    ==========================================
I think the problem relates to the Hardware itself, not the drivers... ha?

Sounds more like hardware than software - yepp, get it replaced under warranty if you can.

I am in Iran. it has a warranty but doesn't seem like a valid one. I'll have a try. hope it works...

Unfortunately it does sound like a hardware failure.

    Same here.

I suppose some people are just unlucky :( - my Vaios battery just died after 2 weeks for example - got a new one under warranty.
