Hey guys, I have recently bought FW 590FEB, after using it for 5 days, I got three times blue screen problem like this:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent the damage.
    http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/images/4/2009/01/win7bsod_01.jpg (example)

1st blue screen, windows 7 shut down unexpectedly
2nd blue screen, windows 7, don't really know since I went to out and find out when I start the pc, it said shut down unexpectedly,
3rd blue screen, windows 7 close/shut down by itself while i was running VLC and utorrent, and it when to the screen where we can choose start windows with safe mode or normal...

I don't know what is happening with this blue screen problem, since this is my first experience with this trouble, can someone help?

Is it software/drive issue or hardware?
Should I restore it to factory setting?
I think it it shutdown by itself, every time i use Google Chrome and utorrent.....

    Any help?

Go here and make sure that if they have any driver updates listed, that you have the latest version of all the drivers installed. I know my graphics driver from NVidia likes to bluescreen from time to time, but the frequency has been much less since the Graphics Driver Update.

So from the link you (XGX2007) gave me, just leave out the original and download and install the update driver?

Is Blue screen of death okay in new laptop, I am just afraid that there is hardware problem/malfunction....?? or is it because the software that I installed!!??

Sorry, I am not knowledgeable enough!!!
Thanks for replying, I am trying your advise!!

    Hey Moofo, I tried this method--> Device Manager > CD/DVD-ROM > Properties > Details

    Then I found 3 items:
    1. C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
    2. C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\GEARAspiWDM.sys
    3. C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\PxHlpa64.sys

Thus, the third one is my problem?? What do I have to do??
So basically, this is not hardware problem? I am just afraid If i have to return it...

    Thanks Moofo!!

wow.. this is some error dating back 12yrs ago

But atm Im sorry I haven't found a comfortable fix I would recomend using. You can try searching for one in the web but alot involes registry fix and so forth, even microsoft hotfix which was seen in windows 2000 till windows XP. If you can wait a couple of hours for me to get back to you on a fix, then I would suggest to disbale your CD-DVD/ROM to avoid anymore BSOD or "unidentified" errors it can cause.

If you can wait, then if I could kindly ask if you can link your comp spec from a Sony website as it would help me identify if the fix Im going to use is compatible with your model :) I just found this error bugging me for 1 year awhile ago, and I skip lunch and is almost dinner >.< So don't wait up for me, if you need your CD/DVD-ROM to do your work or something, but let me know :)

    Cheers

I can't say what is the real problem, but roughly is because your ATA/Atapi overtime or because your had it in "sleep mode" I would save, it charactheristic turn from a "high profile" DMA to a "low profile" which is call PIO and Im guessing is call "printer port" Input Output pararelle or something, can't really spell plus dead tired with so much readin :p

How this change cause so much issue to the whole system? We need someone with deeper knowledge to explain. I haven't really gotten to how it effects the computer.

    Hope that helps :)

No worries, if it isn't resolve I would say you could be facing hardware issues soon, like mine which I didn't realise for a year I might have to conclude the heat burns which leaves a discoloration, spoted on some parts of the notebook is not due to manufacturing defects but heat generated at an unknown rate cause by this "bsOD"

But rest asure, I would definately want to have mine fix, been waiting for a year and within 24hrs I will have a reply for you :)

    Cheers

btw, one more thing, why sometimes the fan get louder and then suddenly slow down... even though I did not open hard and many programs...is it because the blue screen or just all Sony Vaio is like that (jump from silent to noticeable fan sound)...

If im not mistaken as I have read up on the new chipsets which each core carries it's own set of kernel and has advance technology to run on a single core to save power on Low power mode, and each core has 32k (byte i assume) of kernel, and if DRAM is incharge of flushing the kernel, then you have fault errors and heat will build up abit during that time and the command loops alot before is halted.

Something to that effect, hope that helps and I need a break now :) Cheers

is this for the fan problem?? the fan problem is not happening during blue screen though...just when i open multiple (2 programs) but usually when I check the task manager, the cpu usage is increasing when the fan get louder and that stabilize to normal within seconds, so is it common for sony Vaio laptop or just about this series..??

Moofo, please help me to get rid of this blue screen problem!! Thanks!!

Do not run any huge file more then 16mb or download files more then 5mb. There are some more new reports in this forums :) Just collecting you guys all up :) Don't worry, I have already made inqueries to clarify as to what the file is doing there before we fix it :) As Sonic is a software which came with VAIO models, we can't be too hasty :p Is just a random smiliar pattern happening as of late, but I been having it for almost a year :) Just a little more time

If you would please post in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=443632 and the file name you found inside your CD/DVD-ROM, would be very much apperciated :)

    Thanks

No worries :) Just lazing around :p

Well depending on your rams and power mode you were using when you did all those :)

But I would want to try and keep my cache healthy to avoid hard crashes or BSOD. I honestly never had and ATI or use one before, and is hard to say what those card of yours can push, but 512mb from it is sweet :)

Just to brief idea, a senario of a hard crash which has a chance of a BSOD.

To run alot of programs like what you did, usually the RAM plays a big role here, but not all programs do fall into this catergory of programs you are using. The term people would use is Real Time Cache, which only the RAM plus any other qualify cache determine by windows to be consider as Cache. The cache processors Real Time Cache and background programs will be process by what we would call Page file.

So running that many programs which demands alot of RAM, isn't push every a heavy load on every part of the notebook. Heat is an issue which can effect your notebook as a whole to under perform badly, so you really want to avoid pushing that much load on the notebook :)

so moofo, the bsod of my vaio is because of DVD/CD-Rom or because I use multiple programs?? I think my Acer Ferrari 4005 Wlmi can handle mutliple program such as utorrent, play movie, google chrome mutliple tabs...
but why sony Vaio FW 590 FEB which have higher specs can not handle these programs altogether..??
then what is the point of having dual core, bigger ram, better graphics?? (Don't having better specs mean, it can do task like opening multiple programs easily??)

So what is the resolution you can give to avoid Bsod in FW 590FEB...?
what is the reason it is happening? Do you know? Does this kind of BSOD happening in new laptop(once again I am afraid about hardware malfunction)??

Sorry, I am not very knowledgeable!!
    Thanks man!!
