I've had a Sony s360 for a little over a year now. The first...let's say 10 months were problem free and great. But now, my laptop is prone to having this problem: After usuing my computer for a couple weeks, performance will start to drop. iTunes starts cracking (which isn't unusual, many people have that problem with the program) Quicktime skips, WMP takes forever to load a video, games take forever to load, if at all, or they crash after 30 minutes of play, etc. Usually a simple restart fixes the problem. But sometimes, after the computer turns off and boots up again, I get a screen before windows loads giving me the options of: safe mode, safe mode + networking (something), safe mode + command prompt, start windows with last working settings, and start windows normally. Super. So I usually pick "start windows normally" and all is fine. The next time I try to restart, I'll pick "windows normally" and at the splash screen I get a blue screen of death for about .2/second (I can't even read what it says) and it turns off, putting me back with the options of safe mode, start normally, etc.

my girlfriends computer just did that about a week ago. It is more than likely a windows Hive error. There are fixes out there if you google it. However, the best method is to back up your files (externally) and reformat. Then run a diagnostic. Your HDD may be fried.

    Thanks for the replies.

Sorry, what's a Hive error? Best Buy just replaced my HD, I hope it's not fried again. I run Norton in the bg, and I think that's it. How do I run a diagnostic when I clean install Windows? Once again, thanks a lot. This forum is the only one that responded to my plea.

Ok so I ran the recovery console using a XP disk and tried doing the fixboot command. Now all I get is the VAIO screen then a flashing "_" Bummer. Anything else I should try?

have you tried scandisk? it'll check for physical errors on your drive.

All programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scandisk

I think I tried that in the recovery console, but I can't even boot into Windows on my laptop. I'm using my desktop right now.
