My friend is having some trouble with his 4-5 year old A series (pentium M era).
seems like when he boots into windows xp, it blue screens after the windows logo. sometimes we can get further in and windows loads but it'll blue screen after that and immediately resets.
unfortunately cuz its quite instant, I can't read what the blue screen is about.
So far, going into safe mode (with networking) doesn't work, still blue screens. and he seems to have tried reformatting and setting it to factory default, and still has blue screens. fortunately he moved all his files into an external hard drive.
any clues? seems to be hardware related if a factory restart couldn't fix it.

Did you test the memory using MemTest86+?
-
Just try to note down the STOP Error Code from the BSOD.
(Tried Last Known Good Config and Repair Install ?) -
Get a video camera on it.

I recommend mem-checking all new computers immediatly after getting them, laptop or desktop. -
An old Asus died on Windows ME (crashed after a few seconds) worked fine on XP, formatted drive, ME, crashed again...
Worked for some time on Linux though until that went bad...
(XP was the last try)
Maybe you should try loading Linux from a disc??
