**FIXED, THANK YOU XGX2007***
Hey guys, I have a VGN-FW486J/H that I reformatted to sell to a soldier over here in Iraq with me. I downloaded and installed the Blue ray drivers from the sony web site and assumed it would work. I had him come over to show him the quality of the blue rays when played but after putting it in the drive, it didnt wind out or anything (including autoplay).
When I went into "My Computer" and double clicked the F: drive, it just ejected the blue ray disk.
Anyone have an idea as to why this is? It plays regular dvds just fine and Im currently installing Red Alert 3 for him so the drive is working.. jus not reading blue rays.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Blu-Rays have AACS copyright protection, that can't be played by anything other than a certified software decoder... such as PowerDVD, WinDVD, ArcSoft Total Media Theater... those all support Blu-Ray decoding.

Hmm.. Well I have WinDVD on here.. and I even downloaded the updated drivers from the Sony Support Website for my model specific. Even when I start up WinDVD it doesnt recognize a bluray in the drive.. jus regular dvds =(

I'm assuming that you're using Vista Home Premium (same version as factory-installed) on your laptop, right? If that's the case, do you still have the recovery discs with you? If yes, try running it & install just the WinDVD program from the recovery setup discs/program, run the downloaded WinDVD updates, & then try to play your Blu-ray disc again to check to see if it's working. Good luck.

Yes Im running the stock Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Thanks SPEED, I will try that.. jus getting alittle frustrated =)

I'm assuming that by drivers you also mean you applied the firmware update avaliable for your BD-combo? Also, I'm reading in multiple places that a lens cleaner disk has given some people back the BD function. They say that they can read DVD's and CD's, just not BD disks. It would make since, seeing as how Blu-Ray uses a 405nm laser where the laser for DVD's are 650nm (much broader beam). So if the lens is dirty, like it could easily get in a notebook, I'd give the cleaner a try also.
