Hi guys! I was wondering if it is possible to turn of bluetooth w/o turning off the wireless.

Also are there any other tips for making battery last longer or the laptop just working faster in general (tweaking)

    Thanks!

Usually there is either an option in the BIOS to control what the switch does (whether to turn both radios off, or just one/the other) If that doesn't work and you will not need the bluetooth frequently you can disable it in the device manager. Sorry I'm not familar with sony notebooks so I can't really give specific advice.

As far as your second question: Turning the brightness down will give more battery life. Turning all the wireless radios off and limiting hard drive/optical drive use will also help the power situation. You can look into under-volting your CPU, but this doesn't work will on the Core Duo because you often are only using 1GHz of power while on battery and the bottom step of .95 volt cannot be reduced. Underclock the video card will also give a few minutes of extra life. Consider using a power management program such as NHC or the like to tweak settings--I don't know what comes with a Sony.

Go to the Vaio Control Centre, choose Wireless Switch Settings (in Network Conections) and untick enable Bluetooth device.

You should have a Blue/Green icon in the task bar for you WLAN settings to change this easily, if this is not there try logging off (not switching off, not rebooting, just log off) and logging back on again. If this made the missing icons reappear then your computer is logging into windows too quickly at startup - wait a while at the enter password (swipe finger) screen and they should come back...
