WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software is installed, and BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service) is always running.

in System Information | System Drivers there are many Bluetooth drivers installed:

    bthmodem (Bluetooth Serial Communications Driver)
bthpan (Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network))
    bthport (Bluetooth Port Driver)
    bthusb (Bluetooth Radio USB Driver)
    btwaudio (Bluetooth Audio Device Service)
    btwavdt (Bluetooth AVDT)
    btwl2cap (Bluetooth L2CAP Service), and
    btwrchid (apparently another Bluetooth driver).

This VAIO VGN-FZ445D does not come with Bluetooth. Is all that Bluetooth stuff installed always as part of Vista, whether you have Bluetooth or not?

Is there any reason not to uninstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software, and set BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service) not to run? I don't see the point of having things run if there are of no use. Also, should I uninstall/delete the various Bluetooth drivers?

The drivers and such are probably on there as part of the default image that Sony uses for all of the FZ's of that series, wether or not they actually have Bluetooth or other options included.

    Yeah, you're probably right.

I thought I would uninstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software.

I also want to get rid of the BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service), or at least prevent it from always running. Does anyone know how to do that? (Not just unchecking it in Msconfig - I want to remove it properly.)

Once those are done, should the drivers be removed, or does that not matter?

You can shut down the BT service. Look here for how and for other services you may want to modify.

Thanks, but I think the first step would be uninstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software. That may even get rid of the drivers and maybe also the service.

If you ever want to use BT, say via a USB dongle, you might want to leave the software. It is fairly generic. Still, a BT dongle should come with software, or, at the very least, look for it when plug-and-play detects it has been attached. Your choice.
