    How?

    I've tried everything... DEL, F1, F2, F8, F11...

    How do you do it?

Just don't tell me it's an obscure combination of keys that I would've never guessed...

Safe mode is an OS feature (operating system). On most versions of Windows it is F8. Which flavour of Windows are you using? Try pressing F8 multiple times while booting.

It is possible to disable safe mode by changing the administrative policy settings. Is it likely that you might have done that and forgotten about it?

If you can't hit a key to get into safe mode, here is another way to get in.
    1. Click Start button under Windows and type msconfig, hit enter.
    2. Select Boot tab when you see System Configuration dialog.
    3. Check on Safe boot within Boot options area, then restart.
You don't have to hit any key, Windows will automatically boot to safe mode.
Once you done in safe mode and wish to boot normal, repeat steps above but uncheck at step 3.
