    I own a VAIO SZ750N, bought in July 2008.

    BIOS Version R0121S5

Problem - I've only been able to make 1 USB thumb drive bootable for this laptop. It's a very old 1GB Sony "microvault". I loaded Clonezilla Live onto it and I can boot from it.

But, I've tried a Sandisk cruzer and got nowhere with it. What types of USB sticks can I use as bootable media for this laptop?

I've tried various things, such as GParted, diskpart+bootsect (in Windows 7 64 bit), etc

I"ve concluded it's the actual USB media itself, and that some USB flash (pen/thumb) drives are compatible with this laptop, but most of them are not.

How do I find out, before I buy other USB drives, which ones will be usable for creating bootable media and which ones won't work?

    thank you,
    Linda
