Alright, this is driving me crazy, it's nowhere on google.
So I'm trying to boot off of my WD Passport portable hard drive. However, "USB External drive" is nowhere in the BIOS boot settings, only "USB Floppy Drive." Strangely, if I hit esc at the boot screen, the text that scrolls before entering the boot menu recognizes the Passport as a drive, it just never presents it as a boot option.

    Even stranger, this thread:
    http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/GB/en/forum/viewthread?thread=42618
mentions that some vaios (including the FE790, which uses the same bios as of 7/10/2007) have "USB Hard Disk Drive" as an option.

Can anyone with an fe690 confirm that it is impossible to boot off of anything USB besides a floppy? Gosh, I would have waited one more week for the 790 if I knew this =(.

Have you made any changes to the BIOS? Try restoring the BIOS back to default and see if its there.

The settings might be hidden in the BIOS; I know my gigabyte mobo had me hit ctrl+F1 to see some of the settings, like the memory timings. Maybe Sony has something similar going on.
