My thoughts on Sony SZ series. I bought a SZ260P/C in August. I noticed the first day I was having issues with the space bar and the keyboard felt loose (cheap) My wife insisted it seemed fine (space bar). Then I found the space bar forums! Yikes! I also had problems with the fingerprint scanner and other unstable issues. Well after I found out I missed core 2 duo by about 2 weeks. Well that and having to put tape on my new 2400.00 computers space bar - I decided to sell it on ebay. I also bought an SZ370P/C on ebay new for just 2200.00! (it's the same as the 260 with the useless edge set up added - way too expensive) anyway it appears the older SZ series was somewhat half baked as the keyboard is much better no space bar issues no scanner issues - kinda sucks that Sony would have released the thing like that. The only reason I stick with SZ is the speed and weight - it cant be beat!

Do you mean all the problems with SZ2XX are solved in SZ3XX?

What other problems are you taking about? As of right now I have no other complaints - if you have an issue that you would like me to check into I would be happy too.

ct1211, mind checking out whether you experience the "tingle" or "electric shock" when placing your hands on the palm rest? Thanks.

The electric shock session has been fixed. It,s funny though when trading from my sz230 to the 330.My first 330 hinges were very weak with a clicking sound when opening.the sides and dvd drive was also loose as well.when using the touch pad there was a clicking sound were space in between .The notebook had cracking sounds all over.I then returned for a new one and all is well.Sony is using alot of refurbished parts from the sz 2xx series into the 3xx series it.hmmm sounds like sony needs to tighten up there Quilty control before they put some of these 2000.00 plus notebook into the box.

NeilK how is your unit getting all scratched? I have been looking for large PDA like film to cover mine in! As to youe questions...

is the plastic on the left and right side loose - NO I think everything is tigher hinges are fine

is the right hand side soft - Soft how the keyboard is much tighter and I dont have to put tape under the darn space bar!!

is the cd/dvd drive spindle flimsy - These babies are thin about all you can expect - it seems ok though

do you get scratches on the round middle part (between hinges with lights) - NO

are your hinges flimsy - NO

The battery is as loose as in the 2xx series though!

ct1211 can you please tell me if the screen on the SZ3 was better than on the SZ270?
Can you also tell me if it has a real better battery life?

    Thanks
    Terry

Hi ct1211, would you mind telling us about the performance differences? My 260P is pretty snappy on XP, so the 370 should be screaming. Please let us know the details! :)

I had 2GB RAM in the 260 the picture seems less grainy on the 370 but that might me in my head! Battery life seems ok longer than before - that is more a function of the core 2 I think. I know it os not draining as fast as the 260 was with and without power saving measures. Overall the 260 was ok I just wanted to make sure I had a 64 bit processor to take full advantage of Vista when its released. I do wish there was a way to utilize the WLAN by switching the simm card for something faster. I would have bought a 360 if it had been available. I did get the 370 for a smoking deal new on ebay though. Does anyone know of a work around on the cingular card???
