Bought Sony Vaio Z from SonyStyle, but found a better price. Decline delivery?

I jumped the gun too early on the Z12 when it appeared ready-to-ship on SonyStyle last Friday, and because I was offered an interesting 15% off (if I bought some accessories) via the chat.

Of course, during the weekend, I found the same configuration elsewhere without taxes and with a cashback saving me about $250.

Can I just call Sony to say I changed my mind and/or decline the delivery from FedEx when it arrives tomorrow? Or should I accept the box and go through the RMA procedure, which will cost me the shipping of the laptop and the accessories back to Sony? Or can I return the items personally to the Sony flagship store in New York?

I'm asking here first because I want to know my options and be prepared to deal with their sometimes whimsical customer service.

"Whimsical" is a nice way to put it. ;)

Interesting dilemma. Has your payment cleared? If not, I would immediately contact your bank or credit card company and cancel the order immediately. Then I would decline the FedEx delivery and just indicate you don't want it. Though I guess since Sony still has your credit card number, they might still charge you for the return shipping.

Failing that, I think you might be stuck having to bring Sony into the discussion on this one, probably with the unfortunate result of having to pay return shipping.

Though you might try first and see if Sony will do a price match. I think all you have to do is send them proof of the other deal. Could save lots of trouble.

Why don't you just call. It might be easier to say that you found the same model for less and then ask them to price match so you can avoid all the humbug.

So I called and they won't pricematch because they "can't waive the taxes". I can't just decline the delivery either, because that would delay the refund. I'll have to file an RMA and pay for return shipping.

Never buy a new system on the release date. Lesson learned.

If you are factoring sales tax into the price, it's not reasonable to expect Sony to make a concession due to their obligation to collect sales tax. It IS reasonable to expect them to match the "rest" of the price.

Remember depending on the state you are in you are probably obligated to pay the sales tax on this purchase when you file at the end of the year. In reality, very few people do that, but it is the law.
