    Brand New Sony Vaio Z 2010 128gb SSD RaidFailed

    Hi guys,
    What to do now?
    I know Raid 0 is not very reliable, but can it be so unreliable that it dies after sitting shut for a day.
    The laptop battery had 90% charge.
    This was my third boot which I made to create a backup disk. I turned it on last yesterday and when I turned it on again today this is what I see.
    1 .So I am left without recovery disks what to do?
    2. Can we change the SSD's to Intel?
    3. I tried a JBOD and tried installing Vista 64bit and it worked although I did not go ahead with the setup.
    4. Are Jbod drives slower than RAID 0? If so by how much.

    Hrm, strange. Looks like one of the member disks was dropped. I haven't seen that before.

    As for your questions:

    1. You should call Sony to get the recovery disks. Sucks that you had this problem.
    2. Sure, but you are the first to post this. The SSD's have been solid for everyone else.
    3. You should be able to recreate the RAID 0 set.
    4. Yes, JBOD is slower. RAID0 almost doubles throughput.

    Probably I am the few unlucky ones.
    Initially panicked and thought the SSD's had physical failure lol.
    So I can Install an Intel X-25 128gb ssd in place of the Samsungh's ?

    No, you can't replace the SSD's. Some folks are working on new cables to make 1.8" SSD's fit, but they don't have a solution yet. I'm not sure the 1.8" drives will fit, even with the outer shell removed. I may be wrong

    You can put something in the DVD bay, but you lose the DVD.

    IMO, you should press Sony to fix what you have before you start replacing stuff. The system should work normally.

    Any idea why this happened though.
    I ask this so that hopefully i don't get nuked while travelling :)

    Only things that come to mind would be bad NAND on one or both of the drives or that the DVD drive did something to mess up the health checks and the drive failed out.

    If you can install Windows7 or Vista with the drives in JBOD, you can check the SMART status. Not sure what help doing a chkdsk would do, but you could run that as well.

    I am still very comfortable with the drive setup. I've abused the drives in about every way imaginable and they have been solid on two different VPCZ11's.

    Without benchmark result JBOD does not seem slow to me and sometimes i think it response faster than raid 0

    Well I ain't gonna do anything till i get a recovery CD.
    Then I am gonna think I flushed $2k and experiment with my new lappy :)
