Hi all,
I've been able to get everything working except the brightness control. I know that the FN keys will not work, but is there a way to manually adjust it? I don't have an NVIDIA card, so I can't use NTUNE or anything...is there any other way to manually adjust it (standalone program, etc.?). My eyes are really killing me with the brightness....I am running a VGN-FZ 210CE
Thanks in advance!

This was never answered satisfactorily. I have searched through all of the previous threads, and they either:
1. Concern manually configuring it with NVIDIA NTUNE (which I don't have, because I have integrated video instead of NVIDIA)
2. Waiting for Sony to provide a fix (which they never have).
3. Bemoan constantly not being able to change the brightness or power management after downgrading to XP.
As a result, I decided to post a new thread to see if anyone has been able to figure this out since those previous posts.
Thanks again! -
All I could find is a third party called Display Resolution Manager (costs $15). If there is a cheaper manual solution, let me know. Thanks

Go for vista SP1

Well, you have the correct drivers installed for your graphics under XP?
Even if you don't have nvidia, the graphics drivers of the manufactur provide the options under -> Desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> "Chipset Name" where you can manually change the brightness, contrast, gamma... -
I believe the graphics brightness and the actual screen brightness are two different things.

I like you would really like a solution to this problem! -
Yes, same problem, I think it's because Sony and Intel didn't relise proper driver. If you open ini file for Vista driver, you should find something like "event manager inf started here". Because this event manager controling every Sony aplication, might be key solve this problem is proper video driver. Tried to replace this inf for XP driver prior to installation - no result. And my XP driver shares only 128 mb of RAM (384 in Vista), and no AGP texture acceleration. Hope they relise driver with something like Smart dimmer fro Nvidia. Oh, forgot, Vista also have Smart Dimmer, and you can control brightness through it. This is another clue.

Thank you Paul, we got it finally! Hooray! See instruction below. Works perfectly for my FZ140E/B with Intel X3100, Hope it will help for another "happy" owners of integrated intel crap.
Hi all,
Updated version of the backlight utility for VGN-NR110E and other related models. Thanks very much to Tux for his help. Download at:
http:/(slash)rapidshare.com/files/89532709/backlight.zip.html (noobs can't post url there, ***)
and do the following:
1) Run MemAccDrvSetup.exe to install the registered version of memaccess. You can install over the unregistered version from before if you installed the previous backlight utility.
2) Install the visual c files if necessary: run vcredist_x86.exe
3) Run backlight.exe. No config file is necessary. Use WIN-F5 to decrease brightness, and WIN-F6 to increase brightness.
