Hey guys, just got my brand new in box Vaio Z. Everything was going aright until I inserted the battery and noticed that part of the chassis and battery latch had been bent and broken.

I exercise great care with all my electronics and certainly did not force the battery in either. It looks like it may have actually been damaged due to shipping. Anyhow, I'm taking the laptop to the service centre first thing tomorrow.

    Pictures here:

The small plastic piece in the first picture actually fell out while I was removing the laptop from the cloth sleeve it came with.

My fingers are crossed that the chassis for the battery bay and latch itself are easily replaceable parts as I need this laptop for college.

Sure does stink for a brand new out of box experience!

oh my...just now realized the latch is on the notebook for new gen Z, not at the batt..
anyway, since its brand new, you gotta send back the notebook to service center. nothing you can do. you dont wanna to re-glue that latch with super glue on brand new Z right :/
