I recall reading somewhere where there was a a blurb that certain Sony models that were made in Japan, the build quality was FAR superior to certain Sony models that were available Stateside.

I've seens and experiances Sonys in the past but have Never owned one.....but alas, my T43 is going out as I do need a ultra portable PC. Debated between the Sony TZ90 and The Fujitsu P7XXXX, but those pesky SSD hard drives won me over.

of course the tz90, the fujitusu one is creepy and ugly. advanced models are all made in japan, like sz, tz, ux, tx. others are made in china.

actually some earlier models like the VAIO FS sold in japan were actually Made In China while others sold in other countries were Made in Japan. its probably a marketing ploy of the "Made in Japan" value people seem to fall for. given Sony probably adopts a universal QC for its manufacturing factories, the quality shouldnt differ at all. moreover, regardless of wheres its "made in", the parts still come from the same places....

as i know that all the vaio has three different quality level (A,B,C) A as best made, C as rarely passed the manufature quality test.
Sony sell the top one A to US and Canada, B to Euroupe HongKong Taiwan Korea and Japan themselve, C to all Communism countries, like China......
So, us as US and Canada should get the best quality of the VAIO
after all. 6/10 of the Vaio has motherboard, battery, Lcd dead pixels problems in China as i know.

That's over stated. Definitely not true, and is just rumors. No one, and no evidence can proof it.

If your saying about A,B,C quality, actually i think the A quality goods are actually shipped to europe than to the US, the US gets the B goods since there was so much complain about it. Sony's quality over here have been good. Just my feeling ... not sure

And yes, i can read chinese ;)

    I am Chinese myself.

I brought R505 in China few years back. I do not have any problem with it, and it's still working.

"6/10 of the Vaio has motherboard, battery, Lcd dead pixels problems in China." Any one else on earth believe this?

I had laptops with stickers Made in China and Made in Japan. If you didn't read the sticker, you couldn't tell where were they made. Company like Sony can't afford to loose it's reputation by making 2-nd grade product.

People, read the wuruoyu's post carefully. wuruoyu didn't say anything about the manufacturer location (eg. Japan or China), (s)he's talking about the product destination (ie. where that particular notebook is being shipped to to be sold). That said, I don't know if that's really the case or not.

Not to be biased, but could somebody tell me why Sony laptop batteries sold in the US blow up and the ones sold in Asia remain intact?

    I worked in China.
Figured Sony is Sony and bought a boom box.
Total piece of crap, didn't last 3 months.

Then again, the price was way lower than I'd expect for the same thing in the US.

The bottom of the barrel stays in China, the rest get exported.

Are you sure it was a Sony?

I've read a lot of stories about very sophisticated replication companies that masquerade as legitimate businesses selling legitimate products, such as the recent NEC façade.

    I have Japanese friends, too.

But I never heard there're A,B and C grade in the world.

A to U.S and CANADA? or only for JApan?
    B to Europe, Korea, HongKong?
    C to China??

Are you sure that you have a Japanese friend in Sony??

    I don't think so~

    And I think "Yes". There're A,B,and C grades.
But not for country, it's for "WHOM"
A is sold in anywhere like electric market, store and sony web-site.(not country)
B is for employees' family or another business people ( but you cannot get this item without special route.)
C is referblish, these have to go back to factory and be tested.
and then, sony sell them to people who want to buy vaio in it's official site.

Whoa~ that sounds like major doo doo and a pile of diarrhea. First dead/stuck pixels cant be helped and wherever its manufactured always prone to. And a,b,c man I thought it was a joke but you didnt end up saying just kidding or finished your post with a major sarcasm.

If quality control and all this a,b,c talk really happens I would assume that it would be the other way around. United states being somewhere b and c and I see as in asia having all A's except for clones made from china which are probably d or f's.

And i'm not just talking S**T about USA I live here and I love it here better than anywhere else in the world. But just makes sense economically that usa would get the lower grade stuff due to business. Even apple laptops now are made in china, sadly...
