I'm thinking about buying a SZ-110, but I'm concerned about the build quailty. I checked one out at Best Buy and I have to say that I'm less then impressed. Granted those display models are usually pretty beat up after a few days. I tend to be sorta rough on electronics so I'm hesitant to buy it. Right now I have to buy a laptop that is carried at Best Buy (long story) so my options in this price range are the SZ-110 and the Macbook Pro. So some honest opinions about the build quality of the SZ-110 would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Have you thought about buying a Asus notebook? Not sure if they sell at best buy?

No Best Buy doesn't carry Asus, and I'm willing to bet they won't anytime soon. I have yet to see an Asus laptop at any of the big chain stores like Best Buy and COmpUsa. I'd definitely think about an Asus if I had that option. I hear nothing but good things about their laptops.

As for the Macbook.... Well I really don't need windows except for games. To be honest I probably won't be playing too many games on the laptop, but I do want the option. My desktop needs to upgraded to play anything new so I'd prefer to just have a laptop with decent gaming capibilities. Up until late last week when it was assumed Vista would run on the Macbooks I was planning on getting the Macbook, but now with the announcement that it won't run anytime soon on a Macbook I'm very conflicted.

You'll start seeing games on the Mac/Intel systems soon. It's a lot easier to port to the intel binary.

MacBooks have great build quality, but they better surve as a frying pan than a laptop

Macbooks are good, but seem to run much hotter and be heavier than the sony sz. I went with the sony. A lot of people don't like the OS in macs, as for me, I like both....If you're gonna be rough on the laptop, I don't know if you wanna invest this much into a laptop and not treat it like your baby (I know I do). Macs and sony's are always aesthetically pleasing although I do feel the macs scratch much easier. I really like the build of both models. As for reasons stated above, I like the sony....oh, and I think the HD space is larger on the sony for the same price? I may be wrong on that though...

I'm not sure if you have an Apple Store, but I've been to several here in L.A. I've picked up every iteration of the MacBook Pro they have out, and every one of them would make your leg burn if you were to put it on your lap. Seriously, that is the hottest computer surface I have EVER touched on ANY computer, much less a notebook computer. If it weren't for that, I would have bought one, but the heat is simply unacceptable. It's a shame, too - those things are REALLY cool...

As for the build quality of the SZ110, I had one and can highly recommend it. The only reason I returned it was to get an SZ160, which I wanted for the better screen. It's not a Panasonic Toughbook or Lenovo ThinkPad, but it's very well put together.

I like my SZ and I think it has great build quality (laptop experience includes a handful of IBM's, two gateways, a couple of HP's and a handful of Toshibas Can you buy from bestbuyforbusiness.com? If so, they have a MUCH extended selection of laptops, including the full Acer line and a limited selection of Asus laptops.
