    Hello all,
I have recently bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FE670G. It has a built-in Microphone. I havent been able to make the mic work. I am not sure if my microphone is damaged or is there any trick about this microphone that I am not aware of?! Please help. Thanks, Sishab

You want to read this if you own (or planning to own) a Sony product. ;)

I called Sony's support today to see how can I make this built-in microphone work. I was put on hold for 20 minutes for a Sony Vaio Specialist. I told him that my built-in microphone doesnt work. Guess what was his answer. There is no such thing as built-in microphone

I said I am sure there is a built-in microphone, he said: No, you are mistaken, there is a microphone jack! but no such thing as a built-in microphone.

I had to get him to look at the manual to believe me. Look at this manual page 12, it has been explicitly indicated that there is a built-in microphone and on the Figure it has been pointed out where it is. (the manual is attached)

Anyway, long store short... He couldnt help me at all. :(

Sony service and customer relations suck, always have.

Most people here buy their VAIO notebooks [for the notebooks themselves] in spite of the fact that they are "backed" by lousy Sony service...

Go to Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices Properties -> Audio tab.

Under Sound recording is the appropriate device selected?

Now go back to Volume tab, click Advanced, you will be at the volume control program. Click Options, select Recording, click OK. Is the Mic Volume muted or selected correctly?

Try giving this number a call. It's supposed to be tier two support - 888.476.6938 and they've been helpful with any questions I've ever had.
