    Hi!
I received my Vaio 2 months ago and now decided to upgrade it to Vista Ultimate.
I insert the disc, launch the setup, the files start copying, but at approx. 40% (it depends), I get an error, something like setup could not copy the files, maybe the files are not present or disc is damaged, something like that.
I tried a lot of times, did a system restore, still get the same message!
I tried a fresh Ultimate install, all went good, but I wanna keep using the recovery partition since I don't wanna spend hours installing again all the drivers and I'm too lazy to make my own DVD (If someone can upload it, I would be happy to get it ;)).
Anyway, if someone has an explanation, I would be very curious to hear it!
(Oh and, could someone tell me what are the premium editions of the sz6 notebook? thank's)

you do realise that for someone to upload the file and you to download it would take longer, and require MORE effort than you just burning 3 DVDs or 1 Dual Layer DVD!

:d sorry! I think that my english is in fault! I was not talking about the recovery set, but about some HOMEMADE dvd for a clean install, or a fresh install directly to Ultimate...

Really? Maybe is my version of Windows in fault?
I use a retail version, do you use some sort of OEM one or something?
I'm trying to upgrade from the VAIO Business OEM install...

Just FYI, there is nothing about Vista Ultimate that would make it incompatible with ANY computer that can run another version of Vista. It just includes additional features, some of which might not be appropriate on certain systems (Aero on really old hardware, for instance), but the OS itself is identical across all versions of Vista. If you can run one, you can run them all.

    Here it is :
    The message :
"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code ********"
Maybe you see now my problem, because answers like "if Business works Ultimate should work too" don't help me.

It could be any number of issues. Bad media, hard driver errors, and memory problems. In fact bad RAM will cause all sorts of mysterious OS installation issues. You might download and burn a copy of the Memtest86+ bootable CD, boot from it, and let it run at least a couple of complete passes to see if you have any memory errors.

I understood your problem, of course, however you seemed to be asking if it were possible to upgrade from Business to Ultimate. Of course it is, and after MaXimus said he did, your response was "Really? Maybe is my version of Windows in fault?" which seems to suggest you didn't know that. Now you do, so I think it helped somewhat. ;)

Thank you for that, however I did a memtest (the one provided by sony) and have no problem! I HOPE that I have no hardware related problem! The Vaio is new!!
And sorry for my English, I have some expression problems :)
Anyway I finally made my clean DVD install with Vista Ultimate, going to test it now...

What "memtest provided by Sony" are you talking about? I'm not aware of one, but if you're referring to some Windows applet or something, I can assure you it isn't a thorough test -- you can't test RAM effectively while Windows is running, and if you're talking about the BIOS memory scan, that's not a real test.

Memtest86+ is a bootable Linux program with a very small footprint that runs several lengthy tests on every byte of memory. It is pretty much THE only memory test widely used to diagnose memory problems. It takes around 20 minutes to run one complete pass on a typical 2GB system (depending on speed), and it's recommended to let it run for several passes if you really want to be sure. I usually let it run overnight.

Nothing wrong with the sony test boot into the recovery partition with f10 and run a hardware test from there memory tests can be run as well from recovery disks or the ultimate installation disk. Weird though was windows running when you started the recovery? Could a process have locked a file so that windows couldnt over write it?

I did the whole test, the laptop is OK...
Yes Windows was running, its an update, it has tobe running...
I tried to boo from DVD then i get no update option, just new install, wich I dont want to do...
Im very pleased with my setup, the only problem and the reason why im willing to upgrade to Ultimate is the system language, I wanna turn it into French...
Oh and another small question... Is the OEM license working for Ultimate too?
