So I've been told by many that Sony has a laptop sale during the month of August for its student customers, but on average how much of a price drop is it? really? More than the sale that Sony is having right now for it's laptops? If the price will be about the same, then I'm thinking about just purchasing the FZ laptop now before the April sale is over. Also, are there any coupons that Sony is offering for its laptops at the moment? Does it ever offer coupons for laptops? I already know about the Tuesday-Thursday free shipping deal.
Right now, Sonystyle.com is offering an FZ with the following configuration for $1089
T8100 CPU (2.1GHZ, 3MB L2 cache, 800MHz bus)
3GB DDR2 RAM
Geforce 8400M GT (256MB)
160GB 5400RPM HDD
DVD+/-R DL Drive
A/G/N wireless
X-brite HiColor screen
is this a good deal? would the deals in august or anytime until then be better in your opinions?

Do you really want/need it now or can you wait until then? I think that is the deciding factor.
I'm quite sure Sony will have the FZ with the new Montevina chipset/processors out by then or even a new model altogether that would be the same price as the current models and then the models today would be cheaper by August. -
yeah it's not really a necessity that I get the laptop right now. It's actually mainly for college so anytime before August/September would be fine. I've heard that the FZ's might be getting a model change/upgrade in June with the montevina platform/nvidia 9 cards? Or do you think that the FZ's will be totally replaced? Either way I do think it would be smarter to wait until at least June to buy the FZ. I just don't want to lose the price because I really cannot spend over $1100 and i'm looking for a fairly top of the line FZ (penryn, nvidia graphics, upgraded HDD, etc.).

Yeah I'd wait if you don't need it. That's not a bad configuration either though.
It's all about now or later. If you can wait, wait. -
My gut feeling is that by the end of this year, all of their current models will be replaced by entirely new ones. I know they will have at least some new models by summertime but I think they'll replace all of them. Sony has launched new models typically in the summer and fall (when Montevina regular and small form factor versions also come out respectively)
Montevina allows for smaller motherboards, smaller designs, etc. So I am betting that Sony will take advantage of this and roll out thinner, slimmer designs to show off instead of keeping with the old.
I can't wait to see their new models later this year, they have some really nice things going for them like their excellent screens for one thing.
I am betting that the FZ (or its replacement) will have LED backlighting like some of their other models. -
Wait Until August. Montevina Baby
Buy an FZ now..or in August?
