I was checking Portable One the other day and it seems they have this machine for much cheaper than Sony CA website:

    Intel® Core™ Duo 2 Processor T5500 1.66GHz 2MB
    13.3" WXGA XBRITE LCD (1280x800)
    *1GB (Dual Channel) DDR2 Memory (2GB Max)
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7400 and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    80GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive w/ G-Sensor™ Shock Protection
    Combo DVD/CDRW Optical Drive
Integrated Multi-Card Reader for SD/MS/MS PRO with MagicGate®
PCMCIA PC Card(Type I and Type II card slot)
    Integrated 10/100 LAN
Integrated Intel Tri-band 802.11a+b/g Wireless LAN
    Integrated Global 56K V92 Modem
    Integrated Bluetooth (PAN)
    Built-in Electro-Static touch pad
    Sony® Sound Reality™ Audio
    Magnesium Alloy Encasings
    12.5”(W) x 1.0” -1.5”(H) x 9.3”(D) Only 4.1 lbs
    Windows XP Professional w/SP2
    1 Year Warranty

This is for $1499 USD and they have free 2 day shipping... I wish I was living in US.... too bad I live in Canada so I have to pay for FedEx, but still a good deal.

Has anyone gotten a Sony notebook from Portable One before? Perhaps asking this question in the Portable One forum would be a smarter idea? :p

I've gotten a Fujitsu notebook from Portable One, and it was quick and service was really well. I ended up returning it, but there was very little hassle!

I'm considering an SZ from them because the price is just too good, and after emailing them, seems like P1 will put up more configuration options for the $1449 model! meaning, its possible to get it for even cheaper! :)

    That's awesome.
If you click on the machine between that, it says Intel Core Duo 3 :D I'm not sure if that's a typo or something else.

I think I will stick with the 5400 harddrive because 7200 would generate more heat and that's bad for the 13.3'' notebook :p

But I probably will get the 1 dimm 1gig ram just because that's better for upgrading later.

same here. Ordered a SZ150p with a 100GB/7200RPM hard drive upgrade and 2GB ram upgrade... great customer service and i paid less in duties than i would have in taxes here in Canada.

if you're buying from Canada, then no, there's no tax. You will probably have to pay duty, but i ended up only having to pay about 7% or so... probably GST.
