When do you think Sony will start putting Montevina in their laptops? Hope we dont have to wait untill September. :(

Montevina I have read somewhere in the forum that they gonna name it Centrino 2, not Core 2.

Personally I am expecting the TZ getting rid of this old Napa 945 chipset. As soon as Sony will inlude the Montevina and Penryn in this lappy I will pull finally the trigger.
A bird told me that the S series will have a succesor when Montevina will be released. Well, it was about time after 6 refreshes of SZ. :)
I thought it was May the official release of the new chipset.

My brother is actually going to use it for his post-secondary studies, and he is very interested in buying the Vaio SZ. His 7+year-old desktop is still running Windows ME, and he can hardly wait to get rid of it. Plus, it's making funny noises as well, as if the desktop is about to fall apart. Vaio SZ seems to fit the bill, and he does not mind the 13.3" screen because he is used to the 15" CRT.

As for me, I am still waiting for the future TZ. I am just making the comments in this forum simpler instead of saying 'my brother' or whatever. :p So don't worry; I am still in da TZ club.

I got a strange feeling the Montevina TZ will include WiMAX. The future looks bright.

BTW, I am typing on a 4-yr-old HP computer with P4 HT 2.6 GHz processor. Will the Penryn T9300 outperform my desktop? That will be quite interesting to know.

    HAHA so true.

I meant to say Centrino 2. And I think the successor to the SZ with Centrino 2 will be announced in June along with every other computer makers model updates, and then be available in July or August ( as long as there is no shortage of chips).

Yes. Dual core>Single core plus it runs cooler and has more cache.

We are talking about a mobile processor smoking a desktop processor here. :p

One more thing: Which performs better: 512MB ATI X1650 AGP video card on my desktop or the NVidia 8400M GS on the Vaio SZ?

It's more than just a desktop processor vs a mobile processor. Your Pentium 4 2.6Ghz is part of the older Netburst architecture whereas the new Core 2 Duo processors are completely different and much for effecient per clock in comparison. AMD was currently the leader with the Athlon 64 when the Pentium 4 was around. Once Intel released the Core 2 Duo architecture though AMD was quickly left behind. That said yes a T9300 is going to be quite a bit faster than your 2.6Ghz P4. The only real difference in mobile vs desktop processors is that desktop processors consume more power and output more heat and so thus they're able to run at higher clock speeds.

Graphics on the LG P300 is better than both Dell's XPS m1330 and Sony's Vaio SZ.

Is it inconvenient for you to leave an external drive at home? Will you be watching movies on DVD while on the go?

Don't forget the Vaio SZ has two graphics cards. The X3100 integrated graphics is meant for homework stuff like MS Office, internet, etc.; it does the job of extending the battery life beyond any gaming laptops out there with an equivalent size battery.

Well, if you bring an external optical drive with you, you will also bring an AC adapter for the drive (I don't know any external drives that doesn't require an AC adapter besides the external drive for MacBook Air). I think it all comes down to the spontaneity effect for having an integrated optical drive. When you suddenly want to watch a movie, the optical drive is ready for you.

    Let's summarize:

    LG P300 advantages:
    weight
    thinness
    GPU
    HDMI out
    keyboard noise
    5-in-1 multimedia card slot

    Vaio SZ advantages:
    battery life
    hybrid GPU
    optical drive
    sexiness
    carbon fiber lid
    fingerprint reader
PC card slot (perhaps for your media remote while leaving Expresscard open)

Haha, great man! Thanks for clarify things. :) I add my self to a future TZ owner, whenever Sony will add Montevina and WiMAx (hopefully). I really hope that this modell will be the next refresh (the TZ2xx is going to be available in March, and Sony generally refreshes every 3-4 months) because I can't wait too long!

Do you guy think that Sony will have to redesign the SZ and TZ series for putting inside the upcoming new chipset Montevina ?

I think the SZ has gone on long enough. I believe it will be replaced after the 700 series.

I meant that can Sony putt a new chipset in an already existing series or must be redesigned for necessity? Because you change quite a lot inside.
