    Hi,

I plan to buy a TZ198 only for the 64GB SSD and 200GB hdd . I ant to put these 2 components in my TZ150 that has a CD-Rom drive instead of a second HDD. The reason for this is that i live in Europe so i need the keys on the keyboard like "èòà...etc" . SO i will put my Cd-Rom drive and 80GB HDD in the TZ198 and sell it here.

SO, my question is : Will there be any problems putting these 2 components in my TZ150 ? Regarding the fact that my model has the CD-Rom drive instead of the HDD.....maybe is not compatible with a duo solution like tz198 ( SSD + HDD ) .

Oh, yes, i plan to buy this from Clearence club, somebody has any experience with them ?

    Thank you,

Wouldn't it be easier to swap out the keyboard from the TZ198 and replace it with your TZ150 european version. Alternatively why not just buy the 64 SSD seperately and put it inside your TZ150. You can also get a 320gb HDD Samsung Spinpoint for only €80 from these guys in France

Also I hope you are aware that making changes like that will void the warranty on both machines. If your selling one you should tell the guy whos buying it he has no warranty at all.

Any reason your doing it this way?, seems like a lot of hassle.

a 64 GB SSD costs around 850 -1.200 $ . I saw the TZ198 at 2099 $ , putting the 80 GB Hdd, i have, inside the TZ198 and selling it without waranty i still can get around 1.500 -1800 $ here ( in Italy) , so i will end up paying around 4.50$ for a 64GB SSD + 250 GB HDD. That is the reason i am doing this.

Yes, swappping the keyboard is definately a better idea, but i don't think these are compatible with each other. So i will just copy the entire HDD on the SSD and that's it.

$2099 is actually very cheap especially for the components. Hmm maybe I will think about that as well..nice find.

If you can get that much for the TZ after stripping it go for it man. Good plan, good price, good luck. But I see no reason for the keyboards to not be compatible. If you get a chance have a look on the forum for some of the TZ dissection threads, they might be able to save you some hassle. And you can get a replacment TZ into the bargain, its got a higher model number so bragging rights and all that. :)

The keyboards will most likely fit with no problem. Should not have to change all the components.

The "enter" key is different from the US model, the us model also lacks some key s "è, ò. é. à"

It's a keyboard driver thing. The connectors should be the same. My TZ has a German keyboard but I have installed a US keyboard driver in Windows (English) since I don't write in German, so the keyboard functions like an English keyboard.

    Cheers,
    Norman

I understand that but I can almost guarantee the connection interface will be the exact same. I once bought a Japanese Vaio SRX7 with a japanese keyboard, and put in my English one and connectors were the same. You should first try to just implant the old keyboard on the nicer spec'd TZ because changing the DVD drive, etc is not hard but its not a trivial task either.

I'm with the above posters - the keyboard will definitely work, they use the same connector. All you have to do is tell Windows (or whatever your OS is)which driver to use. Think about it - on the assembly line, there's no huge rigamarole for this, the worker just grabs a keyboard from a different pile depending on destination.

I am 100% sure that you can't put the DVD-ROM from a TZ to a TZ that has HDD in place of DVD-ROM -- unless you plan (and know how) to cut the chasis open yourself. I am 90% sure that you can't swap the SSD and HDD, either, because the HDD mount has G-sensor shock protection stuff that block off some space and the SSD won't fit.

So, your best bet is to swap keyboards.
