    Hi!

My laptop (Vaio Z4) was stolen recently. I hate the new Vaio Z21. And I wish there was still an option to get a vaio Z 11/12/13...

I now found one that is offered new (Vaio Z13).

    It has a 1920*1080 display.
My Vaio Z4 has had a 1600*900 display.
Is there anyone who knows both sizes and can tell me how they compare in every day work... I just fear that the 1920*1080 resolution is too much. Type fonts too small...

    In addition:
Is there any manual for disassembly of the VaioZ13 in order for me to change the display if necessary?

    Thanks in advance!
    :)

The 1080p screen is magnificent and it covers a wider color specturm (96%) of the Adobe aGP. The 900p version is a bit brighter and higher contrast, but not quite as wide color gamut. I think if you can read the type on the 900p version, you can read it on the 1080p version. On both you can set text size at 125% or more via Windows, or simply pinch-zoom the screen. I don't think it makes any sense to pay $500 to, effectively, downgrade the screen. Also, from many reports, the installation, while not complicated, gives you several opportunities to break very fragile connectors.

It's a great machine; Go for it.

Mind telling if your source has more brand new ones?

I will wait until Monday and see what Asus is doing with its UX 31. If it is any good, and not too expensive, I will wait for the Asus. If not, the Vaio Z13 it is.
I agree, that it does not make a lot of sense. But the Vaio Z 1X is the only notebook that appeals to me quality wise right now. The higher screen resolution is a bummer...

I found one retailer that has one last unit in stock. So it is not configurable. That is the problem. Since it is his last unit, I will not disclose this information... ;)

I think you may have misunderstood me; the 1080p screen is not something to lament! It's superb, and the screen of choice for more Z users than the 900p. And you can always decrease the resolution and/or increase the text size. Depending on how much you're paying for it, there are lots of people who would buy it from you, likely for a significant profit. What are the other specs?

You can see lots of discussions about the two screen resolutions. For me, the high-resolution 1080p screen is excellent - I have fonts at 100% dpi and have no problem reading text on the screen. Having such a huge real estate on a light machine is excellent - e.g. being able to work with multiple documents side by side is a real plus. I would struggle, now, to go to a screen with a lower resolution.

Remember, the dpi on many smartphones is higher.

The best thing would be to go to shop that sells the 1080p Z21 and see whether you're happy with the resolution. The screen in the Z21 is identical to the Z13.

I will give it a try mot likely if Asus is not coming up with something great on Monday (and timely available).

    The specs are:
    Core i5 560M 2.66 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    1920x1080 display
    Multi-DVD
    128GB Raid 0 (2x 64 GB SSD)
    anything else is standard.

    Price is 1650€.
So for a Vaio Z it is OK.
I think there are threads that describe how to change the SSDs...

I don't get it, can you not just go to (on W7):

    Start,
    Control panel,
    Appearance and personalization,
    Display,
    Adjust resolution.

Then just drag the bar to whatever resolution you want for the whole computer.

    Or for internet (IE9):
    Tools in right hand corner,
    Zoom.

And for Word, etc they have their own too.

Or I am completely wrong and you want to know something else? XD

You can but nothing is crisp when you downgrade your resolution. Best bet is to adjust dpi as that keeps everything nice and crisp.

Just to let you know, I went with a refurbished VPCZ12Z9EX now. Had an option to get a Z13 with 1600*900 but waited to see the Asus U31 presentation... Sure it was gone then.
I will see how the full HD screen wors for me. Since I know the 1600*900 from my old Z (see below), I might be more sceptical... We will see.
However, all other specs are great. Though I would have prefered a less powerful cpu (ci7 620) in order to keep the fan less noisy. Tough, I will use stamina mode most of the time. Hope this helps.
Any undervolting attemps with the Z1 series anyone is aware of?
