I'm planning to pick up a Vaio S460 within the next couple of days and I was just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of specifically? I know there have been issues with heat but the new BIOS helps with that and does work the S460, correct?

It's $1250 (clearance) which I think is a pretty good price for a new S460.

Yeah, $1250 seems like a nice price without going the eBay route. I also have $100 in gift cards to use so that will help even more. I'm hoping 4.3lbs is light enough to carry around campus. I'm tired of bouncing from laptop to laptop trying to find one I like.

I had a Vaio B100 and while portable enough, its 14.1" XGA screen had poor backlighting so the viewing angle wasn't very good.

Just got my S460, and I'm posting from it now :D

The screen was flickering at first and I was disappointed that it might be defective, but found that it was a known issue and a video driver update fixed it. I was also horrified by the amount of heat produced by this notebook, but after installing the BIOS update (worked perfectly!), undervolting and getting rid of the junk running at startup it's down to a level that I can deal with.

I'm thrilled to have this one, I think I've finally found one I'll keep. I've tried ~5 laptops (including an Apple iBook) and none of them were perfect. This S460 seems to be the most perfect I can get without breaking the bank.
