    Hi guys,

I'm finally buying my Vaio Z 13 :) Although I've read alot here I simply want to double check my config. It's 2,5k € after all I'm wasting :p So as you can see it's a german (eu) model.

    That's my config:
    • i5-460M, 2,53GHz
    • 256 GB SSD
    • 6 GB RAM
    • DVD Drive
    • 1600x900 Screen
    • Fingerprint Reader
    • Extended Battery
    • Backlit Keyboard
    • 3x USB

I'm thinking about adding a newmodeus caddy later, this will work with this config, right?
I configed 6GB so its not 2x2GB, it will be cheaper to upgrade later. Any disadvantages coming from that combination ?
Is the i5-460M more power consuming than any of the faster ones? If yes I might spend a little more to get my battery life improved.

    Thanks for your help!

Well, just to add my buying experience:
I have almost the same configuration with the only difference: without the extended battery. I bought the Z13 for 1650€ plus 150€ for 4x4GB RAM (replacement for the original 2x2GB) altogether 1800€ ;)
Just surprised you paid pretty much for it, in my opinion, but if you bought within EU, that might explain a lot.

Anyway, wish you many good days with your new Z :)

Your SSD configuration will result in problems when you add the newmodeus caddy. Better take a 128 or 192 GB config.

Now I despise Apple, for multiple reasons... But, five minutes in Best Buy with the Sony Vaio Z convinced the cheapest guy around that it was worth shelling out huge bucks for it- it is built so well, it really is nearly perfect :). I still think it is overpriced (though having dual SSD makes that price rocket away I am sure, would be interesting to see a price if they had a single SSD or even 7200RPM model).

I was uncomfortable shelling out just over $1,200 for the DV6, but after playing with the Sony... it is worth every penny!

I'm a little worried about the quad-raid, how much of the 256GB can I use without performance issues?
Unfortunately you can't order the 384GB Option anymore, at least not in germany. I had a talk with Sony Support and they told me there never was such an option, but I'm 100% sure there was as I configured a Z12 some months ago.

I just read the thread about that 5 drive power managment issue and I am not sure if i understood right, can I use a 5th drive (hdd/ssd) in IDE mode?
I don't mind if it will be slow the fifth drive (HDD) would just be for mp3s.

Well... the thing is... for the specs, the Vaio Z is unmatched... but MacBooks are overpriced for what you get in hardware... however if you think the software/customer service is worth 40% of the price as opposed to ~15% for PCs... then that's your own choice. I personally prefer more bang for my buck...

Actually, since M$ released Windows 7, you can't really say Apple got the better OS anymore.
And their hardware is worthless as long as you have to go with that uber-glossy screen.
I will give my iMac away as soon as I got my Z + an external Screen.
