Does anyone know anything about the sony BX or FJ, i think they are kinda new and i cant find many reviews, Im thinking about getting one, either the BX or FJ.

Im also having troble finding out where i can get one.

Also are there any other laptops that have similar specs out there?

They both have 14" screens which i like, and a intergrated cam, the HD are 60+, both 1.7ghz CPU's.

My budget was about £750, but Im thinking now aroudn the £900 mark.

Please aware. Unlike FJ, BX 14" does not use widescreen format. 14" model only comes with a standard XGA screen w/ XBrite. BX can be customized while FJ is only sold in preconfigured. According to Sony website x700 and SXGA should be available in mid-November for BX series. Additional features from BX that were missing in FJ are Biometric finger print scanner with TPM and pointstick pointing device. Also integrated camera is only 0.3Mpixel, not good for any high quality video conferencing.

And it might be a piece of crap.

Similar (well reviewed) models are the IBM T43 and Asus W3V.

Cheers, you say the bx only has a .3 MP camera, are you sure? the sony site does not say anything about this.

I just copied this from the Sony business website.

"The optional 0.3 Mega pixel built-in camera with Sony's Instant Video Everywhere Service powered by GlowPoint®"

Get the BX if you want to game or take it with you. The 128MB X700 is better for games, and the SXGA+ screen is nice. Be aware though, there's not much included when it comes to multimedia.

For that, I'd go with the FS. Better screen and more features pertaining to multimedia - ports, media buttons, etc.

I personally like the FJ. I think the biggest complaint among people will be the lack of an x-brite, and the use of the x-brite eco. But to be honest, I'm perfectly comfortable using the lowest brightness on my eco.

I own an FJ, and it certainly isn't too bad. The DVD drive is a little loud, but the suprising sound output makes up for it. They aren't top-notch speakers, but like other sony laptop speakers, you can crank them up without worrying about too much sound distortion.

The battery life is also pretty good- after undervolting and using on low brightness, I can get around 3:45 playing music constantly, using word, and maybe a movie. This is with the stock battery, I'll re-post here if asked with results with a generic extended battery.

I like the FJ mainly because of the size; I find 14.1 widescreen to basically be the perfect size for me. The other option I was looking at was the asus z63a. To be honest, the only reason I went with sony was because of an 18-month no interest deal at circuit city, a $150 off coupon, and the fact they offered accidental coverage (I'm going to be a college student). So if you don't mind a lack of financing or accidental coverage, I'd try looking a the asus z63a as another option.

I'm in IT field, and for me, I would go for BX because its security feature over FJ series. Besides, I always wanted powerful processor - Pentium M 780 2.2Ghz. I don't think either of them are crap.

Cheers guys, I do like the BX the most at the moment, the only thing to put me off is the battery life. Although people think very highly of ASUS's the BX is cheaper than the equivalent W3V, and offers more features.

I have brought many Sony products, cameras, monitors and stereo equipment and been happy with them. I have even had to get a monitor replaced and thought the service was excellent (they replaced it the day after i called, On Christmas eve!!!). and the web cam may only be a .3 MP but streaming 640*480 is fine for Wireless g internet. I think the fact that the old B range was a pile of crap may put people off the new BX range a little.

As soon as i get one i will do a review

You will be able to get a 14" with the X700 128MB soon, Sony hasn't started shipping. They come configured with the SXGA+ display.

I'd expect them to be shipping by the end of this month.
