    Hi all,

I know not many have this machine, so I'm hoping anyone else with a similar setup might have the same issues. I picked the machine up one month ago and I love the form factor but....

    1. Slow SATA bus?
When in WMP10 switching between MP3 tracks or video clips, there is a long pause between clips - sometimes 3 to 4 seconds. This happens regardless if it's a 3 MB MP3 or a 200 MB short video. I thought this was a WMP problem, but I then I noticed that Photoshop 7.0 loads and runs glacially slow. I also noticed that a 650MB Ubuntu ISO download took IE more than 10 minutes to move from the temp folder to my desktop.

    2. Bad keyboard?
Anyone else's spacebar kind of weak on the left side? It feels very spongy and "dead" and often doesn't work. The right side doesn't have the same problem.

I came from a P3-1.2GHz Thinkpad which was admittedly slow and boring, but the keyboard was awesome... and the Sony problems are just really bugging me. I've already removed all the junkware that comes with the machine, and all the latest patches are applied.

    woshi,

I checked my unit and same issue with the spacebar. The very end of the left doesn't respond at all.

I made another post above - have you had the speaker issues I'm having?

edit: still, I don't have too much trouble with this issue, since you have to press at the very end; but it is different than the right hand side, which works all the way to the end of the key.

Thanks for the response guys. I can't believe that at this price point (and a Sony VAIO, no less) that a design mistake like this is made.

I was made an offer by Sony to have the unit shipped in for a replacement (ver 2) keyboard.... not sure if I want to do that, it's just under 4 weeks old.

If this is a known issue with Sony, and they have a definite fix, it might be worth parting with your laptop for a week to get this fixed. The turnaround time for Sony repairs is, in my experiences, quite good.

    Food for thought, anyway.

Would the tape trick for the SZ series work for the C-series as well?
