On my VGN-TX3HP, the C drive is full, but there is still plenty of room on the D drive. What can I shift from C to D, and how does one do that? Is it possible to run applications from the D drive?

My Documents folder is usually quite big, I can move that around, and point Windows to the right place (soft link I believe).

Thanks for the tip. My Documents folder certainly is big - but the system won't let me move it to the D drive. So I tried moving My Music from C to D (about 4 GB); that worked - but strangely, while the D drive is now showing less space, the C drive is siill showing full. Very myseterious.

Since I am pretty likely to use this in the near future I thought I would store the link on this post :D:
Windows 7 - Moving My Documents

Are the music files actually moved, or are there simply links created on D that point back to the C drive?

I also feel that there should be a way to move programs off C to D, without having to remove and reinstall...

Programs have to be reinstalled. If you just start moving files, you'll break the links that the program requires.

All documents and other files can be moved at will. My Documents and My Music are system folders, and they shouldn't be moved. However, the contents inside the folders can easily be moved.

Files don't always get removed by moving them -- they get moved into Vista's and Windows 7's new mix between restore point and recycle bin, and can be restored by choosing "older versions" for the folder.
If so, you need to reclaim the space by removing restore points or limiting the amount the OS can use.

That is not true at all. The OS provides a way for the user to easily move these folders at will. Right click on either of thes folders and select properties. There you will see a "Location" tab. Select it and you will see the current location along with a "Move" button. It is this button that allows you to move the folder and files. The same is true of many other per user system folders:

    Contacts
    Desktop
    Downloads
    Favorites
    Links
    My Documents
    My Music
    My Videos
    Saved Games
    Searches
