A family member gave me a lightly used Sony Vaio VPC115FM laptop. Running windows 7 professional. The actual mode is PCG-8114L I believe, but can't yet confirm, that the original owner installed Windows 8 on this computer, hated it, and rolled it back. I'm not even sure if that's possible, but I remember when he said he was sending it, he said it had windows 8. My blueray DVD/CD drive is not functional. I went into device manager, and got the yellow box with an exclamation point. When I clicked on properties, this is the message I got

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I'm not someone who needs "computers for dummies" but messing with the registry is beyond my comfort zone. I don't even know where to start. Does anyone have any advice at all? I wanted to upgrade this to 8, but without a functional disc drive, I can't even do that. Let alone watch DVDs, play CDs..............

UPDATE: I wanted to delete this thread but don't see the option. I searched several places online, got brave enough to go into registry, and found the issue. I figured I had nothing to lose..........
