For some reason my CD-ROM doesn't want to work it seems like the drivers are installed but it gives an exclamation mark. I tried all sort of things like installing it and reinstalling it and I tried getting updates from Microsoft Updates. Also I tried getting it from Sony.com but it seems that since my notebook was made for XP it doesn't have any drivers for Vista. So I will have to find them myself somehow. I have Windows Vista Home Basic. My notebook is the Sony PCG-R505ESP. I really need help on this please since if I don't make my CD-ROM work then I can't install any programs that uses a CD.
I can say that Win XP and 2000 has no problem with the CD-ROM only Vista has this problem but it might actualy be the driver but I don't know.
This is the model of my CD-ROM
"Sony i.LINK CD-RW DVD-ROM Drive IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device"
Everything else seems to work perfectly fine but just the CD-ROM doesn't work at all.
I just got the Windows Vista Home Basic upgrade few days agao.
Thank You

Well actualy I get Error Code 10 not 39. So I wasn't able to fix the problem.

have you try remove cdrom under device manger let it refinding it
you might want to check fliter keys anyways remove them cause alot cdrom apps mess with that key causeing error -
Well I did try to remove it and make it detect it but it still doesn't work. I do know that I looked on the regedit for that code 39 issue but it wasn't there. So I know I don't have code 39. But it says my problem is code 10. It says this
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I did look at other sites for CD-ROM not working but it says to delete the lowerfilter and upper in the regedit but I looked on mine and I don't even have those. I did know where to look to find them but it wasn't there. -

So you have never got the drive to work with Vista? It looks like a driver problem. Firewire devices are much less universal than USB and need the right drivers.
Did you install Vista SP1? If not, do so. If you are lucky it might clear the problem.

Yes I have SP1 since it came with my new upgrade CD. I also did download any new updates that Windows Updates has.
-
I can say this forsure that Windows 2000 and XP had no problem with the CD-ROM it only had problems since start when I install Windows Vista.
-
So I' am guessing that no one knows how to fix the code 10 problem I' am having.
-
Well if anyone can find out how to make my CD-ROM work I would really appreciate it since I really need my CD-ROM to work so I can install my programs.
Thank You
