how do you guys go abouts doing routine cleaning of your laptop. Ie what do you use to clean ur monitor and outside casing?
and do you guys have anything you put between your monitor and the keyboard/dash - im noticing some marks a long the sides of the plastic outside casing right beside where the monitor is. I know other people who liek to put some kind of material over the keyboard so it doesn't affect the monitor as well, any of you use this?

To clean the computer I use the provided vaio microfiber cloth. Microfiber is best because no dust left behind and no cloth particles either. Some people put the cloth between the keyboard and monitor, as for me I use a piece of the packing bag that I cut so that it fully covers the keyboard and mousepad (material is like a styrofoamy-plastic used to pack most electronics).

I regularly wipe the screen and keyboard with the provided cloth, once every two or three days. Whenever I close my Vaio TZ, I put the provided cloth in between the camera and fingerprint scanner.
The keyboard area is somewhat lower than the palm rest. The keyboard sits in a pit or ditch, so I'm not very worried about the keyboard scratching the screen. However, the palm rest is raised, and it is very possible that the fingerprint scanner can touch the motion eye camera. I can't bear to have both of these scratched. -
Thanks for the replies guys!
okay so i've been doing a bit of research and im thinking of getting some sort of protector such as the shaggymac, also i was just wondering what do you guys actually USE to clean off say dried water droplets and such. I've heard of monstercable's stuff, what do you guys think of this? Any other recommendations? Some say just some water and a microfiber cloth, are there any products that are highly recommended, as i don't want to cause any harm to my screen. -
Do people wash their microfiber cloth? I've been using it to clean my TZ for a while now and it's starting to get a bit dirty. Would it be a bad idea to chuck it in the washing machine?
I'm also interested in people's opinions on what cleaning agent might be good for the casing of the laptop. I have a white TZ and I have to say it's starting to discolour a bit. -
In the TZ user manual, it suggests not to put the included cloth into the washing machine because the black will fade. It didn't say anything about the cloth getting damaged as a result of washing it, though.

personally, with microfiber clothes don't bother washing it - im sure you can find a place that sells them at a low price. also, who knows what will be attached to it when it comes out and what kind of chemicals will be on it. to be on the safe side, just don't wash it or buy a new one. I'd also recommend throwing it away if you've dropped it, apparently car owners are very cautious about this as they feel the smallest piece of dirt can cause scratches on their paint job - think about what this would do to a laptop LCD screen.

I use eyeglass cleaning supplies, found at Lenscrafters and other eye glass shops.

My cleaning schedule goes like this for my TZ:
Spray over the entire computer with a can of compressed air (brand matters very little -- it's just air) once or twice a month. I do this before I clean the screen as it removes most of the bigger dust particles.
Clean the screen with Shaggy Mac OptiMist Prime. Cheap, and leaves no streaks, unlike other screen cleaners I've tried. To dry, I use a ShaggyMac Swiper; it's one of the better microfiber cloths I've tried. I probably clean the screen once or so a month.
I leave the piece of material that came from the factory between the screen and the keyboard whenever I close the computer. Hasn't let me down with any issues yet.
