What is your CPU usage with just this page/website open? I only have the NBR.com in one single tab and with Firefox it stays at about 30% busy, with IE and Chrome at about 45%-50%. Why so much?
I am on Z570N, 2.53Ghz CPU with 3GB of RAM, brand new with new browsers installed. I did some cleanup into sony stuff, but only to keep them from starting with windows, nothing else. But this shouldn't have any connection with the high usage of the CPU. Is this new CPU generation like this?
On my desktop (quad 2.8Ghz) I only see about 1% with like 20 tabs in Chrome (right now), so, yes it's a stronger CPU but I still find it weird!

33% busy with just Firefox and 1 single tab open. That's crazy!
Are there any lighter browsers (on the CPU)? The Z is really fast and I have no issues with it, but a high CPU usage will eat the battery much faster.

    well..
let's just say the flash ad at the top of NBR is using a lot of cpu resource (you can solve this problem by changing to vbulletin style and skip the main page of NBR)
any web sites with flash ads might cause high usage of the CPU

that link i posted is a thread in the off-topic section
you can go there and find it easily

Interesting that you note this. I'm using an old Dell Latitude right now with a 1.13 GHz P3 (new Z540 should be here tomorrow). I had to uninstall Flash a couple of weeks ago as it had the CPU running 100% whenever I tried to browse some sites.

Try updating Flash or using Adblock Plus maybe?
