I just noticed that my CPU (Merom Core Duo T7200) seems to be only running on a single core. I verified this through task manager, Core Temp and finally ran Super Pi) and according to everything, I am only using a single core. I am running the typical Winxp installation from the restore CD's (I just uninstalled everything that I did not need).

    Any ideas?

Did you update your BIOS? I sent my SZ-340 back to Sony for CD/DVD drive replacement under warrantee & they updated my BIOS -- but I noticed it was now only running single core. Per a suggestion in another post I went into the BIOS & simply reset to the default settings, exited, & dual core was working fine.

How did you check if it's running with Single or Duo core?

Hit Ctrl/Atl/Del to bring up the Window Task Manager. Select the "Performance" tab. You will then see the CPU Usage History chart(s). It you are running Dual Core, you will see two charts. If you only see one chart, you may be only running single core.

Click on View, CPU History, & verify "One Graph Per CPU" is active. If it is & you show only one CPU Usage History chart, we then you are only running single core. If you don't have any choice because of the selections being grey'ed out, only single core is running.

Resetting the BIOS did the trick. I had run the Windows patch, and had tried every other trick to no avail. After resetting the BIOS, my speed came back, and the second core is listed in the performance tab.

    Thanks!
